Getting Started with SearchAdvisor

SearchAdvisor is a self service product that optimizes and manages a retailer’s paid search campaigns. It will allow you to scale your paid search efforts without adding costly resources or sacrificing ROI targets all through one interface that works across multiple engines, including Google, Yahoo!, MSN and ASK.com. It will also help you manage products on a profit or sales margin, so you always know which keywords are driving the most profit. You will have the ability to adjust your bidding strategies automatically based on performance and inventory. SearchAdvisor users should have experience managing paid search campaigns, as well as a strong familiarity with Excel.

The following guide will provide you with all the steps needed to get up and running on SearchAdvisor. This proven process leverages on-line movies, tutorials, and conference calls with our Customer Launch Specialists. As you're going through these steps, you are also encouraged to email our Implementation Team with any questions.



Stage 1 - Setup

Review the Pixel Implementation process

  • SearchAdvisor Reporting is available at the channel level. To capture traffic and order data, you will need to install two tracking pixels on relevant pages of your site. The first pixel is the Natural Search pixel. This pixel will capture inbound traffic and should be placed on all landing pages. The second pixel is the Order tracking pixel. This pixel will track all conversions on your site. It should be installed on the order confirmation page.

Note: The SMCID, which is required for your pixel implementation, is included in your welcome email along with your password.

Once your pixels are installed, you will need to create an account for each provider you would like to track in SearchAdvisor.

  • Login to Search Advisor with your username and password
  • Select "SearchAdvisor" from the homepage
  • Select the "Settings" option from the menu bar on the top of the page
  • Click "Create Account" from the middle right-hand side of the page
  • In the new dialog box, enter the provider’s account name, master account number (Yahoo only), account id, login, password and account status. This dialog box varies with each provider. Information in this box, is available from your search provider.

    NOTE: The Account Status field only indicates if the account will be tracked by SearchAdvisor. The status does not influence the search engine account.

  • Click "Save"

Schedule a call with your Implementation Specialist

  • Notify your ChannelAdvisor Implementation Specialist that the Pixels are in place and the Provider accounts have been set up. He/she will verify account set up and work with you to set up your first one hour training session.

Stage 2 - Basic Application Training

During this call, we will review the following modules

Module 1: Dashboard In this module you will learn to how to use the Dashboard to get a quick overview of how your paid search campaigns, comparison shopping engines and natural search strategies are performing in one easy-to-use location.

Module 2: Reporting Learn how to compare provider performance, use report filters and utilize the Product Orders report.

Module 3: Campaign Manager Learn to create, edit and upload a large number of keywords and categories all in one step and upload a large quantity of categories into SearchAdvisor in one step, create and edit a Campaign and create and edit Ad copy.

Module 5: Tools Learn to create, edit and upload a large number of keywords and categories all in one step and upload a large quantity of categories into SearchAdvisor in one step, create and edit a Campaign and create and edit Ad copy.

At the conclusion of this training session, your Implementation Specialist will schedule your second call.

Stage 3 - Intermediate training

Follow up Lesson: Create a Blanket(default) rule for each provider, ie. Google, Yahoo, MSN, that you are tracking in SearchAdvisor. These rules should be set up based on your tolerance levels for keyword bidding.

Question and Answer session to review Bid Manager

During this call, we will review any questions related to

  • Creating and editing Bid rules
  • Setting rule triggers
  • Blanket rules vs. category specific rules
  • Best Practices for creating rules

At the conclusion of this training session, your Implementation Specialist will schedule your third call.

Follow up Lesson: Add a list of your top performing keywords to the Keyword Monitor Insert in the tools section. Go to the Keyword Monitor report in the reports section to see the top positions for these keywords.

After you have been using SearchAdvisor for approximately one month, you will have a 1-hour session with one of our Account Managers. Topics include:
  • Reviewing your account to ensure that it is optimized for your business.
  • Helping you to devise a strategy as you begin ramping up your sales.

*To make the most of the time with the Strategist, we suggest that you prepare a list of questions that you would like to review.

Additionally we would encourage you to review the available tutorials and/or feature movies on your topics of interest.
