Understanding the reList function in Merchant
The reList option in Merchant relates directly to the eBay functionality for relisting auctions that did not sell. Please note that this feature DOES NOT control an ad posting or not posting. That is determined by the other factors in the schedule.
The first option you will see in the image above does one of two things: - If the original posting closed without a buyer, reList that item. This will automatically take advantage of eBays reList functionality and if the item sells the second time, eBay will refund the Insertion Fee for the relisting. However, if the reList does not sell either, you will pay for the Insertion Fee on the reList. reListing an item uses previous auction information to post an item, although there are exceptions that I will note below.
Items that will be re-used from the original posting: - Starting Price
- Title
- Item Specifics
- Description
- Payment Options
- Shipping Options
- Payment Instructions
- Refund Policy
What this means is that those items listed above will be the same as they were in the original auction. Even if you make changes to the ad template or posting template in Merchant, they will use the original listing values on the reListed auction. Items that will be taken from the posting template at the time the item is reListed: - Reserve Price
- BIN Price
- Home Page Featured
- Featured Plus
- Highlight
- Bold Title
- Listing Border
- Value Pack Bundle
- Pro Pack Bundle
- Second Category
- Subtitle
- Gallery
- Gift Icon
- Charity Listing
What this means, is that when Merchant reLists the item, it will look at the posting template to see if these values have changed or are different than what is in the reList. So, if the original item was posted with the gallery feature enabled, and you want to turn this off after the original post, you can turn this off in the posting template, and the reList will post without the gallery option enabled. Basically, anything that costs additional fees will look at the posting template first to see if that option should be turned on or off.
- If the original item closed with a buyer, the item will list as a new listing and you will be charged the listing fee.
- No data is re-used from the previous listing
The second option you see in the image is fairly basic: - If the original posting closed without a buyer, post a NEW listing.
- If the original posting closed with a buyer, post a NEW listing
- Both of these auctions use all data currently in Merchant. No data is re-used from a previous listing, and this is the recommended option if you are making changes to your data frequently and cannot have out-dated data in your listing
So, if you enable the option to allow reLists, we will take advantage of eBays relist credit. If you opt to not use this option, we will send a new auction every time, and you will pay listing fees on every listing posted. Login to give us your comments on this SSC content
