I got a call from Paypal last week, and then some emails about this. Paypal are implementing 3-D secure for mastercard & meastro cards, is there anything we need to do to get this to work, or will it be done by the backroom boys & girls @ CA?

PayPal is going to start requiring 3D Secure for Maestro cards for established merchants starting December 31st, 2009. 3D Secure will remain optional for MasterCard and Visa transactions, and is not applicable to PayPal Virtual Terminal transactions. We here at ChannelAdvisor are currently evaluating the changes required for 3D Secure, and the timing to get it launched. Once available you will likely have to configure some additional settings in our software, and we'll include information about those on the SSC and in release notes.
With the recent news alert from CA, will we be seeing any details on the steps needed to enable this for the PremiumStores so that we can be ready for this change? Can this be turned on now before the new year or will we need to wait until then to make the changes?

We are testing a code update now to support the 3D Secure functionality in Premium Stores. However, in order to test it thoroughly we won't be able to make it available until later in January.
If you are using PayPal as a payment gateway, you will need a Cardinal Commerce account. You can get a head start by going ahead and setting that up. There is more information and a link to create an account at PayPal's 3D Secure page.
I've just seen that instead of implementing this you have just removed Maestro from the payment options - do you have a timescale when you think 3D secure will be enabled at checkout? It is only Maestro at the moment but Visa are sure to follow, if so then we'll end up with very limited payment options??.....
Yes, disabling Maestro is not a long term solution, but was done to avoid buyer confusion for now. I don't have a specific timeline on 3D Secure right now, but it is certainly something we are looking at.

We are testing our 3D Secure implementation for Premium Stores now. Depending on how that goes will determine the date that it is generally available for all Premium Stores. I do not have a estimate for when 3D secure will be available in the standard ChannelAdvisor checkout yet.
We have had several Premium Stores up and running on 3-D Secure for a few weeks. This morning we released this to all Premium Stores - please refer to the 3-D Secure How-To page for more details.
Any news on when this will be available in standard checkout? I am amazed there isn't more of a fuss about this - it is costing us sales as maestro was a popular option before
I too am nonplussed as to why this hasn't been a major issue. A major payment option has been wiped out for the majority of CA's customers. We need this back quickly on standard checkout.

Having implemented 3D secure on my own web site I cannot understand the delay. It means we have much more confidence in shipping our items, and it has considerably reduced chargebacks.
