When manually listing a product through ebay there is a check box that says "Add a surcharge for Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico". Is there a way to check this and add an amount through the posting template?

Thanks

RE: Add surcharge to shipping costs in Ebay

Devin,
Check the Domestic Shipping Surcharge Table on your posting template and configure the surcharge in eBay.

The shipping rate table option is a lot more full-featured than the option you're referring to, so we support that which allows you to have a lot more flexibility in defining the shipping rates for different levels of service and different zones.  Additionally, you can use the blocked region/country list if you have certain areas that you don't want to support for shipping at all.

RE: Add surcharge to shipping costs in Ebay

If you have as wide of a product line as us, the Shipping Rates Table at eBay is not robust enough to accommodate different ship types (like Flat Rate Envelopes). Per Item, Per Lb, or Surcharge options cannot effectively handle a product line that includes 2 oz items, 2 lb items and 20 lb items. Because we cannot block those locations on a Posting Template Level or charge a surcharge on the Item Level we just chose to not sell to Non-Contiguous locations at all on eBay (that's right, we'll ship to Kazakhstan, but not Hawaii). And still, when someone pulls a fast one they're still charged the Non-Contiguous rate that we have setup on CA. Goes to show that the capabilities are there!!

It would be nice to open up that section of the market again, but it does not seem to be a priority at eBay or CA.

I worked on that project for a week and there really is no practical way for it to be done.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

RE: Add surcharge to shipping costs in Ebay

You can block destinations on a posting template basis if you like.  That was launched in January 2012:

There are some changes that eBay is doing to the way new listings process that may open up a few other additional options later this year, but we're still trying to get all of the appropriate details about those options to know how they'll work.
