From eBay.com.au General Announcements:

***Changes to stores and search on eBay.com.au***

15 July 2009 | 07:02AM EST

From 10 September 2009 eBay will make a number of changes to stores (including pricing) and search on eBay.com.au.

We’re introducing a number of new pricing packages that will only apply to stores. These price changes are aimed at encouraging larger and growing sellers to list more Buy It Now listings.

In recognition of the ongoing importance that auctions hold on eBay, standard pricing is not changing.

Why?
Whenever eBay make changes the obvious question is why? The short answer in this instance is one word - demand.

The longer answer is about introducing changes to keep up with the rapidly changing e-commerce environment. Today, buyers want quality products at great prices and increasingly, they want them quickly and conveniently. This has been illustrated on eBay by the rapid growth in demand for Buy It Now items over auctions. The changes being introduced are aimed at enabling sellers to better meet this growing buyer demand.

What?
Just as important as understanding why things are changing, is understanding exactly what’s changing and the impact the changes may have on you.

If you use eBay predominately to buy, you should notice an increase in the products available for purchase as well as changes to the way search results are sorted. We’re aiming to make finding exactly what you want on eBay faster and easier.

If you sell on eBay there’s a little more information to absorb.

Let’s start with the increased visibility of Store listings and enhancements to search which we’re calling ‘Best Match’.

From 10 September ALL store listings (often referred to as SIF listings) will have increased exposure as they will appear within the main eBay search results. Increasing the profile of these listings will help sellers meet the growing demand for Buy It Now by giving Store listings greater visibility than they currently receive.

‘Best Match’ is the new search algorithm that uses a number of factors to help rank listings. It is being introduced to manage the extra volume of listings appearing in the main search results. ‘Best Match’ will help ensure there is a good mix of relevant auction and Buy It Now listings.

The other big news for sellers on eBay is the introduction of new Store packages (including new pricing for Stores).

We believe larger and growing sellers are best placed to meet the increased demand for more Buy It Now. To encourage them to do this we are introducing three new Store packages which offer some lower insertion fees and free gallery, among other benefits. Larger and growing sellers should examine the new Store packages closely to determine which package will work best for them.

We also recognise the important contribution that smaller or more traditional sellers make by providing the wide and unique range of items eBay is famous for. To ensure these sellers continue to be a central part of eBay, there will be no changes to standard pricing for both auction and Buy It Now.

Am I going to be better off?
We believe the new Store packages offer greater value for the majority of larger and growing sellers and enable them to better meet the growing demand for Buy It Now. By not changing standard pricing, sellers can continue to benefit from the great existing value available on eBay.

Understanding exactly what the changes mean for you may take time. You may need to think about your selling practices and potentially make some adjustments.

For detailed information and explanations of all the changes, visit ‘The big news’ page where you’ll find tools, tips, tables and lots more.

Regards,
The eBay team

Matt
My TSAM has advised that any updates to a listing from a 3rd Party provider will affect best match standing. Do you guys have any information
about how this has affected sellers in the USA and UK?

Thanks

Mandy

They're wrong.  We know the changes that affect Best Match standing by killing the Recent Sales score and don't do any of those.  We've been doing Recent Sales and Best Match for almost a year in the US and UK and have familiarity with it.

If you're not already, you'll want to enable relist on your schedules so that the Recent Sales score from a previous listing will be carried over to any new listing for that item.  If you have that disabled, we won't tell eBay to carry that score over.

For more information on Best Match and Recent Sales, search these forums and you'll find a number of discussions on the topic.

Hi Matt

Shall we use     Store Item Format    or    Fixed Price Format  when we are listing on eBay AU?

RE: Best Match and new Store Pricing coming to eBay ...

My biggest issue is that we get a lot of supplier specials, it is going to be fine to reduce the price but when the sale
ends and the price returns to normal apparently that will reset the recent sales stats.

I know I can use the markdown manager in eBay but that means not taking advantage of the sale pricing for SAP inventory, or
having to run a duplicate inventory specifically for eBay. What a PITA

Has anyone dealt with specific issue?

Store Item Format is the type of listing that is only included in your store and is not part of the main search results.  It is also going away for eBay AU in mid-September.

Fixed Price Format is the standard listing type that appears in search results and is available at a set price.  This will be the only option when SIF goes away, as is also the case in the UK and Ireland.  With the advent of 30 day fixed price listings for a much lower insertion fee, the benefits of the SIF listings are generally negated.

when will these features be available for us to reschedule all our listings?

RE: Best Match and new Store Pricing coming to eBay ...

All of the features you need to select Fixed Price Format and to list items as 30 day Fixed Price listings are already live in the software and available for you to use.  Attempting to use them prior to eBay enabling the functionality on 10 September will likely result in an Errored Listing, but you can go ahead and configure those options today.

The Store Inventory Format option will be removed from the posting template and all posting templates automatically converted to Fixed Price Format in the CA release on 19 September.

RE: Best Match and new Store Pricing coming to eBay ...

Hi everyone,

As you are getting ready for the changes next week, there are a few things you should read. Scot Wingo, CEO of ChannelAdvisor shared some very helpful information in his blog when the new listing formats and Best Match was launched in the US last year. Many of the same strategies apply to the changes in Australia.

Here are the links to his blogs from last year:

You can also see Scot's recorded webinar on this September's changes from 4 August.  While all of the changes do not apply to all countries, many of them are consistent worldwide.

I just added a new page to the SSC on Optimizing for eBay Best Match that will be of interest, though the section on Variation Style Listings is not yet relevant for Australian sellers.

Don't forget that displaying a shipping rate in your listing can help your ranking. You can dynamically create template tags to show your flat rates in the Posting Templates as explained on this page:

http://ssc.ChannelAdvisor.com/howto/displaying-shipping-rates-ebay-listings

Note: This page uses screen shots from a US account where the Posting Templates are slightly different. The same functionality of the tag builder applies though.
