How To

Amazon Shipping Overrides

In ChannelAdvisor, during the process of configuring your product information for Amazon, you can also configure inventory-level Shipping Overrides. Shipping Overrides are values for product shipping that will be charged to the buyer instead of the value calculated through the Amazon Seller Central shipping table.

The Shipping Overrides is intended to handle exception cases. If you find that you are using the Shipping Overrides to change more than 10% of your products, modify your default settings in the Amazon Seller Central's Shipping Manager to better support your shipping cost structure.

Please Note: Once you migrate to the new Amazon Shipping Settings (Ship by Region), shipping overrides are not loger valid and similiar information should be set up on Amazon's settings page.

Shipping Overrides: Why use them?

In some cases you might want to change your default shipping settings for a specific product. For example, if you sell Consumer Electronics, you might want to prevent a 200-pound television from shipping to Hawaii. Another use case would be if you use a drop ship partner for some of your catalog and want to make sure you’re adjusting your shipping charges for those products to accommodate the extra cost of shipping.

You can override shipping charges for relevant products with a product-specific value using the Inventory-Level Shipping Override section of the Amazon Template.

Shipping overrides in ChannelAdvisor are applied by both region and shipping method. You will have an option to specify shipping overrides for each eligible region/shipping method configured in your Seller Central account.

Examples of available shipping override region/shipping methods for a US Account could include:

  • Continental US Street Address & PO Box
    • Free Economy Shipping
    • Standard Shipping
    • Expedited Shipping
    • Second Day Shipping

  • Alaska & Hawaii US Street Address & PO Box
    • Standard Shipping
    • Expedited Shipping

  • Canada
    • Standard Shipping
    • Expedited Shipping

  • Europe
    • Standard Shipping
    • Expedited Shipping

Note: Applicable shipping override regions/methods will vary depending on your Seller Central configuration.

What Settings Are Available?

For each shipping override region/method there are three possible attributes to submit values for:

  • Shipping Option Restricted – Can a product use the shipping override region/method?
  • Shipping Table Override – Replace a product-specific cost for a shipping override region/method
  • Additional Shipping Amount – Add to a product-specific cost for a shipping override region/method

Just like any other mapping on the Amazon listing template, values can be submitted by hard-coding a single text value, mapping an attribute field from the ChannelAdvisor Inventory Module, or using a calculated value found using a lookup list or business rule.

Shipping Option Restricted

Submitting a “TRUE” value will prevent a product from shipping using a specific shipping method to a specific shipping region. A “FALSE” value will allow the product to use that shipping method in that shipping region.

In this example products submitted by ChannelAdvisor will NOT be eligible for Same Day Shipping to US Street Addresses.

Shipping Table Override

Using this attribute, a merchant can REPLACE a specific product’s shipping price for a shipping override region/method option as configured in Seller Central. This can be mapped to a product-specific attribute in ChannelAdvisor’s Inventory Module – or a value calculated by using a lookup list or business rule.

In this example products will use a specific attribute to submit an Amazon US Standard Shipping value instead of using the US Standard shipping charge.

Additional Shipping Amount

Using this attribute, a merchant can ADD to a a specific product’s shipping price for a shipping override region/method option as configured in Seller Central. This can be mapped to a product-specific attribute in ChannelAdvisor’s Inventory Module – or a value calculated by using a lookup list or business rule.

In this example products will use a business rule to determine if a product is drop-shipped and add an appropriate charge to cover the additional costs.

How to Configure Amazon Shipping Overrides

Complete the following steps to configure Amazon Shipping Overrides. If you do not want to override the shipping table defined on Amazon Seller Central, do NOT do anything on this page.

  1. Go to Marketplaces > Amazon > Product Mapping > Templates.

  2. Determine the type of shipping override you hope to accomplish. With shipping overrides. there are these options:

    1. You want to restrict shipping for the shipping method.

For example, you want to restrict shipping for standard or expedited shipping to a US Post Office Box.

      • Put "TRUE" for the Shipping Option Restricted? field.

    2. You want to override the shipping cost for the item for the shipping method with an "exclusive" new value.

For example, you want to offer free shipping for a product or group of products.

      • Put "FALSE" in the Shipping Option Restricted? field.
      • Enter a value (e.g. 0.00) in the Shipping Table Override field to completely override the amount that is on Amazon's shipping table.
      • The value for the Shipping Override Table must be mapped, like any other ChannelAdvisor template field, using one of the following methods:
    3. You want to override the shipping cost for the item for the shipping method with an "additive" extra charge to the current shipping charge.

For example, you want to add $10.00 to shipping a large TV to Canada.

      • Put "FALSE" in the Shipping Option Restricted? field.
      • Enter a value in the Additional Shipping to Table Amount field to add the amount to what is on Amazon's shipping table.
      • The value for the Additional Shipping to Table Amount field must be mapped, like any other ChannelAdvisor template field, using one of the following methods:

Note: If the Shipping Option Restricted field is either blank or FALSE, we will send the Shipping Table Override value if there is one, otherwise ChannelAdvisor will send the Additional Shipping to Table Amount value.

Note: Once a SKU has had an override applied to it, you will always need to supply an override for it until you are ready to remove the override.

How to Remove Amazon Shipping Overrides

Once an override is applied to a SKU, it is not removed by removing the information from the ChannelAdvisor template. You can override the existing shipping override on a SKU with the help of an "Additive" override for the default shipping rates to apply. This will render the existing override as ineffective and the default shipping rates set up on your Amazon Seller Central Shipping Table will apply.

  • Put "FALSE" in the Shipping Option Restricted? field.
  • Enter a value of 0.00 in the Additional Shipping to Table Amount field to add the amount to what is on Amazon's shipping table.
  • The value for the Additional Shipping to Table Amount field must be mapped, like any other ChannelAdvisor template field, using one of the following methods:

Please Note: The Free Economy Shipping Override can only be removed if there are other overrides being sent. If there are other overrides being sent then setting "Is Shipping Restricted?" from TRUE to FALES will remove the override. Please contact Amazon directly if you do not have other shipping overrides and still need to have the Free Economy Shipping Override removed.

In ChannelAdvisor, during the process of configuring your product information for Amazon, you can also configure inventory-level Shipping Overrides.
