This system is archaic

Why even use categories with Amazon when you can simply use their ASIN? That's the equivalent of ChannelAdvisor breaking a wheel to pieces and requiring you to put the pieces back together and then reselling it back to you for $2500 a month.

While ASIN matching can be

While ASIN matching can be one way to list a product to Amazon, there's many reasons why it isn't a viable strategy for everyone and Amazon themselves recommend against it. This article on Seller Central (login required) suggests to use a unique standard product identifier such as ISBN, UPC, or EAN and to avoid using the ASIN.
