Assigning a Child SKU to a Parent SKU

Assigning your child items to the appropriate parent items is the final step in the process of configuring your inventory to list in a variation format. To get a full overview of this process, please see the Using Variations page. In order to complete the bond between the Parent SKU and the Child SKUs they must be assigned to the Parent SKU. As long as the child SKUs contain the appropriate varying attribute and the values are unique for each SKU, the parent/child relationship will be completed. You may also complete this task in bulk by configuring your inventory for variations via spreadsheet.

How to Assign Children SKUs to the Parent SKU


Complete the following steps related to this task:

  1. Navigate to Inventory > Products > All Products - Beta view. You can also go to Inventory > Products > All Products.
  2. Select the parent SKU.
  3. Click on the parent SKU to load the product details screen.
  4. On the left, select the "Variation Relationship" shortcut which will take you to the Variation Relationship section of the details page.
  5. Under "Variation Relationship" section, click the "Add/Remove Childrenbutton.
  6. Select child SKUs and click "Apply Selection" to assign them to the parent.
  7. You'll be taken back to the parent SKU page, confirm that the child SKUs you added are correct and click Save and Exit.
