Getting Started with Basic Webstores


Please Note: The Basic Webstores functionality will be removed July 31, 2013. Information to help you migrate your store to an alternate webstore solution is available. These solutions are fully integrated with your ChannelAdvisor account and can automatically process product updates and orders along with providing substantial additional webstore customization and functionality. Make sure you plan your webstore migration and have it completed prior to July 31st. Please refer to the SSC content for more information.


 


ChannelAdvisor Webstores helps you to build your brand outside of your marketplace presence.  With easy storefront setup and seamless inventory and order integration, you can sell your products easily across multiple channels.  Webstores offers benefits like item meta descriptions, multiple images per item, product variations, variation pricing, unrestricted HTML editing on product description, and unlimited number of categories and many more.  
 

ChannelAdvisor encourages you to grow your business using our Webstores product.  We have complied these documents to help you enhance your store using our tools so that your store provides an additional source of income. Follow the steps below to configure your Webstore. 

Steps to Get Started with Basic Webstores


 

Below are the steps to complete in order to setup your basic webstore in ChannelAdvisor.

 

Step 1: Complete the Setup Wizard


Navigate to your  Webstores > Basic Webstore > Setup Wizard view and complete the following steps within the wizard:

  1. Provide a Store Name and Logo
  2. Configure Store Navigation and Layout
  3. Configure Home Page Layout
  4. Configure Store Categoires
  5. Other Optional Tabs
  6. Complete Store Setup

Step 2: Assign Inventory to Basic Webstore


After you have completed the Store wizard and set up your Store categories, you must assign inventory to your Store. Inventory is assigned to the Store from the Store Inventory tab. It is not necessary to assign a schedule, ad template or posting template to an item to list it in your Store.

To assign items to your Store follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Webstores > Basic Webstore > Store Inventory view.
  2. To add an item or items to a category, select those items and click the Assign Category button.
  3. Select the category from the category tree. It is only possible to add items to the lowest tier of a category. In other words, merchants cannot add an item to a category if that category contains a lower tier category.

4. Click Save and Exit.
5. Items to appear in the store must have a store category and a store price assigned to them.  Once this has been completed, you can select the items to appear in the store by putting  checks next to the items that you want to appear in your store.
6. Click the Add to Store button

All items that are currently in their Store will display the icon in the Store Inventory view.

Step 4: Configure ChannelAdvisor Checkout


 

A Checkout is used to collect buyer shipping and payment information, and process payment for buyers to complete their purchases. Defining your Checkout Settings will be one of the first tasks you should do after purchasing the ChannelAdvisor application.  Using these settings you can define checkout options and features used by buyers to complete their purchases.  Whenever possible, the recommended default values have already been configured in your account.

Step 5: Improve Your Webstore Design


 

Webstore Design is important to increasing the usiblity of your store and as a result increasing sales. Customizing your design in a ChannelAdvisor store is not that difficult if you have some guidelines to work from. Having a good understanding of HTML will also be required.

Step 6: Setup Your Store Domain Name


 

The best practice for natural search / search engine optimization (SEO) is to contact your domain name provider (example: godaddy.com) and redirect your domain name (www.mystore.com) to your ChannelAdvisor store. Step 7: Optimize Your Store for Natural Search


The goal of every merchant is to drive high quality traffic to their store and convert those visitors into buyers. The goal of every major search engine is to provide users with the content they need by ranking the most functional and informative sites at the top.


These interrelated goals can be achieved by focusing on three major themes:

  1. Relevance of the site content to the searchers’ keywords.
  2. Quality of the content on the site.
  3. Usability of the site for engines to crawl and visitors to stay.
