How To

Best Buy Getting Started Guide

These steps will walk you through the setup process for Best Buy. We recommend reviewing all the steps before beginning the process.

The ChannelAdvisor Setup Guide for Best Buy allows ChannelAdvisor to establish communication with the marketplace. It is important that each section of the guide is complete in order for ChannelAdvisor to efficiently send inventory and quantity allocation updates to Best Buy. Currently, Best Buy supports listings in in-catalog products only. Additionally, the product must exist on both the Buy.com and Best Buy marketplace.

Prerequisites

Get Marketplace Approval

The Best Buy Marketplace is currently only open to select merchants. Best Buy is evaluating merchants based on how their product mix complements the product mix already available on Best Buy. In most cases, Best Buy is reaching out to merchants directly. If you have questions about the selection criteria, process or to determine if you might be a good fit for the Best Buy Marketplace, please contact Best Buy directly at marketplace@bestbuy.com.

  2. Quantity to withhold or reserve for another channel
  3. Choice to allocate, or commit quantity to the site, or not allocate

Please refer to the quantity allocation strategy page of the SSC for detailed information about this topic.

Inventory Reconciliation

In the event that your inventory information has been updated directly on Best Buy, unanticipated results may occur, including the possibility of overselling. For this reason, ChannelAdvisor strongly recommends you never update your inventory information directly on Best Buy. To help safeguard this, ChannelAdvisor provides the Inventory Reconciliation feature. When enabled, this feature will automatically detect any differences between your Best Buy inventory and your ChannelAdvisor inventory and reconcile the differences according to the behavior you specify on the Inventory Reconciliation settings page.

For additional information and example on how this feature works please refer to the  Using the Marketplaces Inventory Reconciler page.

List Your Products

Templates indicate to ChannelAdvisor what data from your inventory is to be used and how that data should be interpreted before being sent to the Marketplace. The template in effect translates your data according to your specifications to meet the restrictions and guidelines of the sites that you are selling on.

When you begin mapping your templates you will have four options to complete each template field. The option that works best for you will depend on how you have prepared your inventory for each sites data requirements. The more effort you put into preparing your inventory the easier it will be to complete the template mapping process.

For detailed information on how to utilize templates in ChannelAdvisor, visit the Customizing Template Fields page.

Activate Integration

In order to send inventory to the Marketplace, you tell the system to pull all inventory that has a label associated with it. This gives you a flexible way to tag the inventory you want to appear on the marketplace without having to assign classifications or any other grouping mechanism. The label assigned must be the same as the label configured in your Settings. This action notifies ChannelAdvisor which products will be included in your Marketplace feed.

For more information on this topic view the Creating and Assigning Labels page.

Once you are satisfied that the information you are sending to the Marketplace is correct, you can now Activate your integration by selecting the Activate link on the Settings page. This action will initiate communication between your ChannelAdvisor and Marketplace accounts.

Communication Frequency

Now that your Marketplace integration has been activated, ChannelAdvisor and the Marketplace will be communicating frequently. Depending on the number of SKUs and the complexity of your inventory information, the amount of time it takes to process, communicate, and update on the marketplace could vary significantly. Refer to the Marketplaces - Processing and Communication Frequency page for more information on this topic.

Considerations

  • Buy.com - In order to begin listing your products on Buy.com you need to list a minimum of 100 items, and an item must be listed on Buy.com in order to be listed on BestBuy.com.

From your All Sales view you can easily manage the fulfillment process for all orders imported from the marketplace. Weather you use ChannelAdvisor or a third party fulfillment system to manage your orders, ChannelAdvisor offers the tools to optimize your fulfillment strategy.

  2. Once imported, your orders will appear in the Sales > Orders/Transactions > All Sales view alongside all of your other orders.

This step is highly important since you will not be paid for your sales until this information is received.by the Marketplace. Once your tracking numbers are provided and your order status is updated to shipped ChannelAdvisor will send this information to the Marketplace. There are three primary methods to complete this process.

Refer to the Updating Shipping and Tracking Information page for further details.

Cancelling and Refunding Orders

A refund is only necessary if you have already marked the order as shipped. If you have not marked the order as shipped, canceling an order within our system will cancel the order on the Marketplace. If the buyer contacts you after their purchase looking for a refund, you may process their request by going to the Sales> Orders/Transactions> All Sales view.
