How To

Setting Up Cost Data

Cost Data refers to the advertising costs incurred when working with Comparison Shopping Engines (CSEs). Most shopping engines will use a Cost-Per-Click (CPC) cost model that charges a small fee based on each time a shopper clicks on one of your items and is redirected to your online store.

Requesting to be a part of the ChannelAdvisor Cost File means that the CSE will return the actual cost data incurred for your account, which ChannelAdvisor can use to plug in actual cost values for performance data and reporting. This is referred to as Actual Cost.

To confirm that you are receiving current Actual Cost, navigate to Digital Marketing > Dashboards > Performance, then expand the Revenue/Cost Information section at the bottom of the page, and verify the date shown for each provider is current.

Setting Up Cost Data for Providers

Cost Data is important to incorporate into Performance Reporting in order to understand the profitability and success of your advertising with CSEs. Currently 8 providers are equipped to return cost data to ChannelAdvisor. For these 8 shopping engines you will want to ask to be added to their ChannelAdvisor Cost File:

Amazon Product Ads

Login into Seller Central. Under the Reports menu select Ad Performance. Choose Performance By SKU. From that page, click the Edit link to schedule this report. Schedule it to run Daily.

In the ChannelAdvisor platform, step through the Feed Setup Guide ( Digital Marketing > Marketing Management > Feeds ) to the Settings page. On that page, select the option to have ChannelAdvisor process your cost files. Enter your Seller Credentials. You are presented with a link to authorize us to access the Amazon API on your behalf. Click that link and follow the instructions.

Please Note: Amazon Product Ads cost data retrieval works slightly differently than the other sites. APA provides cost data by SKU, the other sites provide data by trackingID. In order for us to properly process your APA cost data, the two systems must have the same values for SKUs. For most clients, the ChannelAdvisor platform will use the Model Reference Field mapping for SKU values (Or for clients using the Standard Specification of External Data File inventory, the Model field is SKU). For APA, SKU is whatever you provide on the APA template. Therefore, if you are modifying your SKU values on the APA template, it is unlikely we will be able to associate cost data to the correct SKU.

Bing Shopping

No instructions for Bing Shopping - feed settings also don't allow an estimated CPC. Quite inconvenient...

Thanks Aubrey, I have brought this up here and we will make a change to allow this.
