Creating Business Rules

Creating a new Business Rule allows you to manipulate and transform the data defined in Templates throughout the ChannelAdvisor application. You can create new Business Rules when the Default Rules pre-populated in your account do not meet your needs.

You should be familiar with the following topic:

Complete the following steps to complete this task:

  1. Begin by navigating to any one of the following views depending on what you are creating the business rule for:
    • Inventory: Inventory > Product Mapping > Business Rules
    • Marketplaces: Marketplaces > [Marketplace Name] > Product Mapping > Business Rules
    • Digital Marketing: Digital Marketing > Marketing Management > Business Rules
  2. Select the New Business Rule button.
  3. Give your rule a name – Be descriptive when naming your Business Rule. It is helpful to Include the Comparison Shopping Engine or Marketplace in the name if the Rule is specific to that Site.
  4. Give your rule an optional Description – This optional field is good to use when you have multiple people using your account or are creating a complicated Business Rule. This description appears for your reference both where you apply the rule and on the Business Rules page but does not affect the functionality of the Business Rule itself.
  5. Select a SKU to preview with using the SKU to preview with dropdown, and then use the Editor to create your rule. The editor is where you enter the expression, which is the working part of the Business Rule and contains the technical information on what you want the Business Rule to do.   6. Drag and drop the appropriate Fields, Functions , and Lookup Lists or type the expression directly into the Editor. Use quotation marks around text strings, and parentheses to properly group complex expressions.
  7. Preview your rule – The Preview window allows you to see your business rule's output when applied to the SKU selected in the SKU to preview with selection and will automatically refresh when an update has been made. Reference this area to make sure the rule is working as intended.
