Creating eBay Ads Via Inventory Bulk Upload Spreadsheet

It is always recommended when working with many inventory items to utilize a spreadsheet. Using the inventory bulk upload spreadsheet, a single item can be added to multiple marketplaces and associated with multiple ads. ChannelAdvisor allows for the creation of eBay ads in bulk via the ChannelAdvisor Upload Spreadsheet.

Tasks to Complete


To create new ads complete the following steps. To edit existing ads it is recommended to use the Bulk Ad Upload method

  1. Download the ChannelAdvisor Upload Spreadsheet or perform an export of your current inventory in ChannelAdvisor.
  2. Populate the following columns with your eBay ad component information.
    • Auction Title
    • Inventory Number
    • Ad Template Name (Create in ChannelAdvisor prior to upload) – this is actually the Description Template, but the backend still refers to the old name "Ad Template".
    • Posting Template Name (Create in ChannelAdvisor prior to upload)
    • Schedule Name (Create in ChannelAdvisor prior to upload)
    • eBay Category List
    • eBay Store Category Name
    • Please note: If you are using an export of your current inventory, you will need to manually insert these columns into the export before populating them.
  3. To create multiple eBay ads from the same item, create an additional line under your item Populate the ad-related fields and leave all other fields blank.
  4. Navigate to your Inventory > Product > Upload a File view to upload your spreadsheet and ad your eBay ads. If you have assigned a schedule to your ads they will be listed to eBay according to the schedule parameters.

Please note: Copy and Paste the name of your Description Template, Posting Template and Schedule names exactly as they appear in ChannelAdvisor. The Description Template and Posting Template names are required to create the ad. A schedule and category are recommended but not mandatory to create the ad.To create multiple ads for the same SKU simply include an additional row completing only the SKU name and ad data for the additional add.

This chart represents the applicable fields to create an eBay ad in the ChannelAdvisor Upload Spreadsheet and outlines the various scenarios.

  • Each entry for a SKU will update that item's Auction Title directly. All of the ads that the upload creates will use the item title instead of using a custom title.
  • The required spreadsheet format is the same as before. You are now simply able to create new ads by inserting ad information into additional lines after the first one.
  • Additional ads for each item must immediately follow the initial line defining the new item.
  • There is no limit on the number of additional ads that can be created for each item during the upload process.

update suggestion

As a reminder: check your product inventory template to ensure everything is configured correctly.  ChannelAdvisor has built in tempates in the inventory template just for ebay.  Just spent an hour and a half scratching my head at what is wrong.  Simple mistake I'm sure others could have made.
