You can either enable variations at the posting template level, which allows you to control which listings are in variation format, or enable Variation Listings at the account level, which would apply to all listings in categories that permit Variation Listings.

The item specifics that can be used for variations will be shown with a   notation next to the name of the Item Specific on the Posting Template. Item specifics that do not have the variation icon are not allowed to vary among the child items and will cause listings with incorrect data or errors when trying to submit the item.

Enabling Variations for Individual Posting Templates

Follow the steps below to enable variations for an individual posting template:

  1. Navigate to your Marketplaces > eBay > Product Mapping > Posting Templates view.
  2. Select the posting template you wish to enable for variations or create a new posting template.
  3. Select the checkbox that says Enable Variation Listings for items using this Posting Template which is located at the top of a posting template.

This will enable you to associate some posting template for variations while keeping others available for only single item listings.

Please note: In order to use this feature, it is required to assign the category to the posting template. This may result in multiple posting templates configured depending on how many categories you list to.

Enable Variations for All Posting Templates

If you would rather enable the global setting in your account to convert all of your posting templates to utilize variation listings follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to your Marketplaces > eBay > Settings view.
  2. Select the edit link next to listings.
  3. Under the variations heading check the setting Enable eBay Variations for All Posting Templates.

This will enable you to associate all listings that support variations to be submitted as such.

Please note: This will disable the ability to list independent items if they are in a category that supports variations and the inventory qualifies to be submitted as a variation listing. If you are a seller that would like to submit both variations and independent items for inventory that would qualify to process as a variation, you will want to keep this option disabled. Regardless of the setting, items that do not qualify to be submitted as variation listings will always be submitted independently.
