How To

Establishing Shipping Rates for an Account

You can configure shipping rules at several different levels throughout the system depending on your shipping needs. When the system must calculate a shipping rate for an item, it will begin looking for the shipping rate at the lowest data level, then move on to additional levels until a rate value is found. Ultimately the Account Shipping Rates defined will be used if no other rates have been defined for an item.

Shipping rates do not have to be defined at every level in ChannelAdvisor, but they must always be defined at the Account Shipping Settings level. These rates are used as a default if no other rates have been defined at the Item or Classification levels. This ensures that a shipping rate can be calculated for all invoices processed through the system.

Configuring Global Shipping Settings

Follow the steps outlined below to configure your global shipping settings:

  1. Navigate to Sales > Shipping > Account Shipping Rates view.
  2. If multiple distribution centers have been configured select the appropriate distribution center and click Save.
  3. Select the shipping calculation method to be used:
    1. 3rd Party Shipping Calculator: integrates with UPS, FedEx, or USPS to determine exact shipping rate values (supports US Domestic rates only)
    2. Inventory Item Shipping Rate: if used, you must supply a shipping rate for every inventory item in your account.
    3. Flat Rate Shipping: rates can be entered for each configured carrier/class combination
  4. Choose to apply a % discount off the shipping amount for invoices including 2 or more items.
  5. If you are using the 3rd Party Shipping option, choose if the common buyer destinations are "Commercial or Residential".
  6. Select a Shipping and Handling Combination Rule
      1. Use the First Item shipping and handling rates from each SKU or Class on the order.
      2. Use the highest First Item shipping and handling rates from all items on the order, and then use the Additional Item rates for every other SKU on the order.

Shipping and Handling Combination Rules

These settings will determine what the shipping and handling calculation behavior will be for this account when multiple items are combined onto the same invoice.

Option 1: Use the First Item shipping and handling rates from each SKU or Class on the order. If multiple quantities of the same SKU or Class are present, use the Additional Item shipping and handling rates from each SKU or class. Enabling this option will use the first-item rate each time a different SKU or class is found on the invoice, and then use the additional item rates after that.

Option 2: Use the highest First Item shipping and handling rates from all items on the order, and then use the Additional Item rates for every other SKU on the order. Enabling this option will use only the first-item rate for the SKU with the highest first-item rate, and then use additional item rates for all other SKUs on the invoice.
