How To

Using the GETCATEGORYMAPPINGFORSITE Function in Business Rules

GETCATEGORYMAPPINGFORSITE allows you to reuse existing category mappings created for one Digital Marketing site on additional site templates. Many feed destinations allow you to specify any category you like (“Pass-through”) or use the exact same taxonomies as other provider sites.

Using this business rule function will allow you to save time and effort in creating site specific category mappings. The most common example is using your Google Shopping category mappings on Bing Shopping, Facebook or another site with pass-through category mappings.

Prerequisites

You should be familiar with the following topics:

Using the GETCATEGORYMAPPINGFORSITE Function in a Feed Template

  1. Create a new Digital Marketing Feed Merchandiser template for the new feed destination. In the template’s relevant category field, tick the Evaluate checkbox.
  2. Select the GETCATEGORYMAPPINGFORSITE function to populate your attribute mapping with the function.
  3. Create two inputs for this function, the Digital Marketing site name you are copying the category mappings from, and the attribute field containing your product categories. Be sure to use the same exact site name as found on the ChannelAdvisor Digital Marketing category mappings page.

In the example below we are using the category mappings previously configured for Google to submit categories to Bing Shopping.

This function acts as a bridge, connecting the “internal” category data you have with the “external” category data you need. Once you connect all your categories to provider categories, the rule will take over and find the appropriate match from the list when you activate your feed.
