The Amazon Grocery & Gourmet Category is available to help you list new and in-catalog food, beverage, household supplies and gift products on the Amazon Marketplace.

This category is available in the US on Amazon.com, UK on Amazon.co.uk and in Germany on Amazon.de.

Tasks to Complete


 

  1. Verify that you are approved by Amazon to sell in this category and you are familiar with the listing restrictions and requirements.
  2. Review this page for info on Amazon's Grocery & Gourmet Category
  3. Enable the Category in Marketplaces > Amazon > Settings by checking the box for the category Grocery & Gourmet
  4. From the Grocery template in Amazon > Templates map the required and any other fields you might need in the Grocery section of the Amazon template.
 

 

Grocery & Gourmet Product Types

The template provides refining attributes in the following product types:

  • Food
  • Beverages
  • Household Supplies (use this Product Type for listing Plants and Flowers)
  • Wine*
  • Alcoholic Beverages*

*At this time (January 2013), the sale of beer, wine and other alcoholic products is not allowed on the US Amazon.com marketplace. These products are available for sale on Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.de, however, separate category authorization must be obtained by Amazon.

 

Variations by Product Type

 The following Variation Themes are supported for all the Product Types in this category:

  • Size
  • Flavor
  • Flavor-Size
  • Pattern Name

 

Required and Highly Recommended Fields

Please refer the the Amazon Flat File Templates for field requirements and a list of Valid Values. Additionally, the Amazon category Style Guides provide useful information on listing your products.

Important attributes in this category:

  • Category Name - The allowed values for the category name are "Grocery and Gourmet" and "Grocery".  Please note that "Gourmet" is NOT a valid category name.
  • Product Title - If applicable, make sure it includes pack information in the title (e.g. ABC Company Tea Bags (Pack of 10)) in conjunction with the proper use of the Item Package Quantity and Number of Items fields, below, to make sure your products are matching up with the correct Amazon catalog item.
  • Product Type
  • Variation Theme - Describes the parameter(s) by which the parent product may vary. For example, a product may vary by size.
  • Item Type (US) or Browse Node ID (non-US) - important to classify your products into the correct and most specific Amazon browse structure.
  • Item Package Quantity- Use this field to indicate the number of units included in the item you are offering for sale, such that each unit is packaged for individual sale. For example, if you are selling a case of 10 packages of socks, and each package contains 3 pairs of socks, the case would have Item Package Quantity = 10 and Number Of Items = 30.
  • Number of Items- Use this field to indicate the number of discrete items included in the item you are offering for sale, such that each item is not packaged for individual sale. For example, if you are selling a case of 10 packages of socks, and each package contains 3 pairs of socks, the case would have Item Package Quantity = 10 and Number Of Items = 30.
  • Price Per Unit (PPU) -  Accurate Price Per Unit (PPU) data must be provided for all new product listings using the Unit Count and Unit Count Unit of Measurement fields from the ChannelAdvisor template.
  • The attributes KosherCertification, OrganicCertification and TokuhoCertification are mapped to same attribute on Amazon. Per SKU, please provide only one of these values.
  • Region of Origin and Sub-Region of Origin - Required attributes for wine products allowed for sale on an Amazon marketplace outside of the US ONLY. Amazon maintains a list of valid values for these fields. If your Amazon flat file does not contain a Region Tab with this information, you may need to contact Amazon to obtain this information. For example, for wines produced in Italy, the Region may be Piedmont and the Sub-Region may be Barolo. For wines produced in France, the Region may be Burgundy and the Sub-Region may be Chablis.
  • Other Listing Requirements for US Sellers:
    • Ingredients and Nutrition Facts Policy: Any ingredients and/or nutrition facts listed on product packaging should be uploaded as secondary product images on product detail pages.
    • Bulk and Commodity Foods Policy: All Agricultural Commodity and Bulk food products must be listed on separate, distinct seller-created detail pages. Sellers of these products must also be approved by the Brand Registry and list these products with the unique brand name and product identifier that are registered.
    • Dietary and Allergen-Free Claims Policy: Any dietary or allergen-free claims (such as Organic, Kosher, Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free) must also be present on a products packaging in order to be listed on the product detail page.

 

Scheduled Delivery of Flowers

The scheduled delivery feature is available on Amazon only for eligible products (e.g. flowers) fulfilled by Amazon Merchants. During checkout, a buyer can schedule a delivery date for their product delivery. Please confirm with Amazon that the Scheduled Delivery feature is available for your products other than flowers.

Feature Setup:

(1) Contact Amazon support to have the scheduled delivery feature activated for your eligible listings. The setting is currently not visible in Amazon's Seller Central and must be activated by Amazon.

(2) When orders come to you from Amazon, ChannelAdvisor will show you the scheduled delivery date in the following places:

  • In the user interface's Edit Order screen, the date is shown in the Must Deliver By Date field
  • In the ChannelAdvisor Orders API, the date is shown in the Delivery Date field (YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS)
