Deleting Field Level Inventory Data

As your inventory changes you may need to modify, and even delete, some information from your ChannelAdvisor inventory. ChannelAdvisor supports deleting inventory information in several ways.

Please Note: There are some fields that cannot be deleted using the bulk actions below. Those fields can be seen here .

Complete the following tasks related to Deleting Field Level Inventory Data:

 

Deleting Field Level Data from a Single Item

The most flexible way to delete inventory information is by editing a single items data directly in the ChannelAdvisor application. Complete these steps to edit or delete inventory information from a single item:

  1. Navigate to your Inventory > All products view.
  2. Select the item to be edited.
  3. Click on the SKU of the item you would like to edit.
  4. Edit or delete the values in an inventory field.
  5. Click Save and Exit.

Please Note: SKU and Title are required fields and CANNOT be deleted from the inventory item record.

 

Deleting Field Level Data in Bulk Using an Upload File


If you need to delete large amounts of data, or data from the fields of several inventory items at one time, you can use the upload process to remove inventory information in bulk. By using the ChannelAdvisor Upload Spreadsheet you can submit the command "_Delete_" (include the _underscores_) as a field value and the information currently stored in the inventory item field will be removed.

Please Note: Some fields either already support the notion of removing values using a negative (-), or are required fields that cannot be deleted. Read more about the fields that CANNOT be deleted using the upload method.

  1. Create a file containing the fields that you would like to modify. (The file MUST include SKU to identify the items which will be changed)
  2. Include "_Delete_" as the value for any field(s) for which you would like to delete data.
  3. Upload the file using the Upload a File page or using FTP .

Example:

The following example will delete any existing value in ChannelAdvisor inventory for the Color Attribute in item 123-A.

A Template can be applied to an upload file to interpret or change the information that is included in that file. Complete the following steps to complete this task. Learn more about using Templates with an upload.

  1. Create a template, or modify an existing template, to include the field for which you would like to delete information
  2. Select a mapping type for the field:
    • Text: Enter the value "_Delete_". This will always submit the delete command for this field when the template is applied to an upload file containing this field
    • Inventory File: Specify a field that exists in your upload spreadsheet. The field must include the "_Delete_" command in your spreadsheet (see above)
    • Business Rule: Create a business rule that results in the "_Delete_" command. This will delete the field value when specific criteria in your rule are met.
    • Lookup List: Create a lookup list that results in the "_Delete_" command. This will delete the field value when specific criteria in your lookup list are met.
  3. Upload the file using the Upload a File page or using FTP .
