How To

Creating Externally Managed Distribution Centers

ChannelAdvisor's improved Amazon FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) solution allows our customers to leverage FBA to fulfill orders from any channel our platform supports. This means orders from eBay, Sears, NewEgg, Rakuten as well as Amazon can be shipped from Amazon FBA. This also means customers can now depend on Amazon FBA for all order fulfillment; allowing you to focus on running your business instead of packing and shipping orders. ChannelAdvisor is focused on accurate quantity management and supporting timely order fulfillment.

Each ChannelAdvisor account should be configured with at least one seller-managed distribution center . If your business has multiple fulfillment warehouse locations, you can configure additional seller-managed distribution centers, however, a specific inventory item (SKU) may be assigned to only one seller-managed distribution center. For example, your SKU 123 is fulfilled from your Dallas TX DC.

The same SKU can also be fulfilled from an externally-managed DC. For example, your SKU 123 is fulfilled from your Dallas TX DC or your Amazon FBA US account. ChannelAdvisor offers an auto flip feature to address this.

If you are using some eBay features it is important that you configure all of your seller-managed distribution centers so that accurate shipping rates can be configured for your account. When shipping rates must be determined for that inventory item, ChannelAdvisor checks the assigned distribution center and uses that information to calculate the shipping rate for the buyer. This rate calculation is used in the shipping calculator on listings as well as in the ChannelAdvisor Checkout.

How to Create an Externally Managed Distribution Center using Multi-Channel Fulfillment by Amazon

Complete the following steps related to this task:

  1. Setup on Amazon.
    1. Sign up for FBA
    2. From Settings > FBA Settings, view the Multi-Channel Fulfillment settings and enable.
    3. Select any Multi-Channel Fulfillment options (branding box and packing slip).
    4. Click Save and Exit.
  2. Setup on ChannelAdvisor
    1. From Inventory > Settings > Distribution Centers, select Distribution Center and select Externally-Managed.
    2. Enable Amazon FBA.
      1. Indicate a locale specific FBA distribution center. For example, Amazon FBA US or Amazon FBA UK.
      2. Understand the Auto Flip behavior .
      3. Setup overrides to the default Shipping Mappings .
    3. From Inventory > Settings > Distribution Centers, select DC to Site Mappings.
      1. Prioritize Fulfillment – If you are using both a seller-managed DC(s) and an externally-managed DC (FBA), you will need to prioritize fulfillments from your distribution centers for each channel on which you are actively selling. For example, this allows you to prioritize FBA fulfillment first and seller-managed fulfillment second for Sears and seller-managed first and FBA second for eBay. If you prioritize an externally-managed DC (FBA) first, any order that comes in for a product held at FBA will be fulfilled first from FBA for the channels enabled in the next step.
      2. Enable Channels for FBA Fulfillment – Complete the DC Settings page by making active or inactive externally-managed (FBA) fulfillment for each channel. If you enable a channel by making FBA fulfillment an active DC, quantity held at FBA will be available for listing on the enabled channel and orders from that site will be fulfilled by the product quantity you have stored at the FBA warehouse. Fulfillment order is based on the priority established in the prior step. As a best practice, we recommend that the Amazon FBA DC be put on the priority list below (e.g. at the bottom) of your other seller-managed DC.
    4. Indicate products that will ship using FBA.

Note: If you are setting up a new marketplace at a later date (example, you want to set up NewEgg after you have completed setup for Multi-Channel FBA):

  1. Setup the marketplace in the channel's set up guide.
  2. Enable the channel in the DC to Site Mapping screen.

Configuring Multi-Channel Fulfillment Shipping Mappings

  1. Under Inventory > Settings > Distribution Centers, locate the selling channel (e.g. eBay, Sears, Tesco) and then select your externally-fulfilled distribution center and proceed to the FBA Shipping Mapping Options section.
    • Please note, if you are bringing in orders from outside a ChannelAdvisor integrated channel, your channel should be indicated as "Check Out Direct". Orders can be entered via the REST or SOAP API for directly via the Add Orders feature in the ChannelAdvisor UI.
  2. A list of default mappings can be found here . If you would like to override these defaults, select your Carrier/Class information on the left and click the Standard/Expedited/Priority buttons to assign the carrier/class to the appropriate option.

Considerations

  • The Available Quantity column on the All Products page has been changed. This column now includes both seller-managed and externally-managed distribution center data.
  • A product can be both FBA and seller managed.
  • At this time, ChannelAdvisor only supports the creation of Multi-Channel Fulfillment by Amazon Externally-Managed Distribution Centers. You may only have one externally-managed distribution center configured per posting account. If you have already configured an externally-managed distribution center, you will not have the option here to create an additional one.
