How To

SFTP

Use these instructions if you want to upload or download inventory files to ChannelAdvisor using Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) with a password challenge.

Setting up SFTP in ChannelAdvisor

SFTP access is set on the Edit User page. The user will be able to access any Profile to which they have access within their Client. Visit the Edit User page ( My Account > Manage Users ).

Create a new user or update an existing user with SFTP login information as follows:

  • SFTP Username: Must be at least 8 characters in length, and contain only alphabetic characters or numeric digits.
  • SFTP Password: Must be at least 8 characters in length, contain at least one capitalized alphabetic and one non-alphabetic character.

Setting up SFTP Client

Using an SFTP Client such as WinSCP, FileZilla or the Linux command line, set the following properties for the connection:

  1. Remote host and port: Use the SFTP URL located on the Edit User screen directly beneath the Public Key field.
  2. Username and password as indicated in the form. WinSCP sample below:

Specifics for WinSCP SFTP Client

Finally, WinSCP attempts a file permissions change after writing your file. ChannelAdvisor does not allow this and throws an exception, so you need to configure WinSCP to ignore this error message.

  1. In the lower left corner of the screen, click the Tools button. From the flyout menu click Preferences.
  2. In the Preferences tree, click Transfer.
  3. Under Preset description, highlight Default then click the Edit button.
  4. Checkmark Ignore Permissions Settings.
