How To

Manually Specifying Vehicles for eBay's Parts Compatibility – AU Specifications

The manual specification method allows you to define the specific vehicles supported by the listed automotive part. Specification rules vary by the different locales. This page discusses the Australia specifications. To view alternative locale specifications see below.

The only option for Australian Fitment listings is to individually list each of the Make, Model, Variant, and potentially other characteristics for the vehicles supported by the part. Each possible vehicle option needs to be detailed to ensure that comprehensive options are provided to prospective shoppers. While there is a limit of 3000 compatible vehicles that can be supported, combining several Body Style and Engine listings into a single specification will allow you to define your parts comprehensively and stay under the 3000 limit. Parts with more than 3000 compatibilities will be rejected, so you can submit more comprehensive lists by only including Make, Model, Variant when sufficient to describe the vehicles.

For this information, eBay is using AAIA-compliant (ACES) definitions of the vehicles. If you know that your items will not be part of the catalog and will have to be listed in this format, it will be to your advantage to research this information and determine how to collect the various vehicle details for each of your items. You can download the official list of supported vehicles (now available directly from eBay, updated quarterly) to ensure that your submissions will be successful.

Tasks to Complete

To configure manual parts compatibility, your information will need to be in one of the following formats:

Detailed Format

Use the following format to provide the necessary vehicle options

CAR MAKE | MODEL | VARIANT | YEAR | SUB-MODEL | ENGINE::NOTES
CAR MAKE | MODEL | VARIANT | YEAR | SUB-MODEL | ENGINE::NOTES

  • Car Make, Model and Variant are required fields
  • Year, Sub-model, Engine, and Notes fields are optional and should only be used when necessary.
  • The pipe is used as a separator between the vehicle information
  • The double colon (::) marks any notes that should be included
  • Line breaks indicate a different vehicle

Note: Due to minor updates that can cause your products to fail we strongly recommend against using the Year, Sub-Model, and Engine values unless absolutely necessary for your item to avoid any nuanced changes eBay may make to the vehicle specification data. (You may also want to investigate using KType values as a listing method.) If intending to export fitment information you may need to separate each vehicle using ^^ instead of line breaks.

Example 1:
Jeep|Cherokee|-- [1980-1986] SUV
Jeep|Cherokee|KJ [2001-2007] SUV::Special note about KJ model
Jeep|Cherokee|KK [2008-2011] SUV
Jeep|Cherokee|XJ [1984-2001] SUV

Example 2: A more complex option, specifying certain information about some BMW X3 vehicles could have this format:
BMW|X3|E83 (2006 - 2012) AWD Closed Off-Road Vehicle|2008|si|2996cc 200KW (Petrol)::Special Note
BMW|X3|E83 (2006 - 2012) AWD Closed Off-Road Vehicle|2010|si|2996cc 200KW (Petrol)
BMW|X3|E36 (1992 - 1995) RWD Coupe|1993::ALL ENGINES ARE SUPPORTED.

Important Note: Australia's Variant field contains a year range portion that may use parenthesis ( ) or brackets [ ]. Please be sure to pay close attention as to which the MVL requires for your fitment value.

KType Format

Use this format if you have the ktype values. You will be required to obtain a license from TecDoc in order to utilize KType values. To obtain a license visit the TecDoc site and register to obtain their online web catalog .

KTYPE::NOTES
KTYPE::NOTES

  • The KType value is a special number assigned by eBay that identifies a specific vehicle without requiring the details of Make, Model, Variant, and others to be specified by the seller and is an alternate method to submit the same information.
  • Line breaks indicate a different vehicle.

Example
13566
13579
13573
13562::All engines are supported.
