Resolving Amazon Errors

There are a wide range of listing errors that you may receive when listing to Amazon. Some errors are significant and will keep your products from listing on to the marketplace while other errors are less serious. For the less serious errors, although your product may list successfully, chances are that it is not listed optimally according to Amazon's standards. Typically there are two methods of resolving an Amazon error. The method you choose will depend on the error you have received as well as how your data is organized.

Because Amazon requests a large amount of data for items in multiple categories and has many requirements, it is not uncommon to receive multiple listing errors. Refer to the Common Amazon Errors page for an extensive list of errors and hints on how to resolve them.

Method 1: Edit Your Amazon Template Mappings

The Amazon Template is what tells ChannelAdvisor what data to send to Amazon. Failure to map the appropriate fields with the appropriate values from your inventory can result in listing errors. When you receive a listing error it is almost always a good idea to check your template. Some things to look out for are as follows:

  • According to the Inventory File Templates on Seller Central, have I mapped all of the template fields that are "required" by Amazon to list successfully?
  • Have I mapped using the correct attribute in my inventory?
  • Have I setup the appropriate Business Rule or Lookup List to transform my data into a value accepted  by Amazon?

Method 2: Edit Your Inventory Data

If you find the template appears to be mapped correctly and in according to Amazon's specifications, more then likely the source of the error is in your inventory data. Some things to look out for are as follows:

  • Am I sending values that are accepted by Amazon according to the Inventory File Templates on Seller Central?
  • Can I use a Business Rule or Lookup List to transform my existing data into a value accepted by Amazon?
  • Do I need to create a new attribute in my inventory and populate it with an accepted value?

Please Note: If you're unsure about what fields need to be mapped and what values are accepted by Amazon, reference the Inventory File Templates located on Amazon Seller Central.

Product Performance View

In addition to the Amazon 360 Dashboard there is now a Product Performance view that will allow you to go more in depth with your products on Amazon. This view allows you to search for specific SKUs in your Amazon feed to compare your product details side-by-side with the Amazon product page for that SKU.

From Marketplaces > Amazon > Products > Product Performance, you can view:

  • Amazon's 100 Best Sellers – displays Amazon's top sellers that can be filtered by category to see what products are successful on Amazon.
  • Amazon Buy Box Opportunities – automatically shows you products you sell with prices near the Buy Box owner's price. Consider adjusting your pricing to meet or beat competitor's pricing as it plays a big factor in winning the Buy Box.
If you search for a specific SKU in the search box, ChannelAdvisor displays detailed performance information on a product as well as the current Amazon listing status.
  • Amazon Product Details – View the details of a designated SKU directly on the Amazon product page. If your SKU is not listed on Amazon this section will be grayed out.
  • Product Errors – Here you will be able to view any listing errors that are effecting a specified SKU
  • Product Performance – Here you can view a day-to-day performance in terms of GMV for the specified SKU
  • Product Information - A specified SKU's name, quantity, price, cost and recent sales
  • Sales Rank – The Sales Rank calculation is based on Amazon sales and is updated daily to reflect recent and historical sales of the item sold on Amazon. The Sales Rank displayed here is for the Product Group within which the item is featured.
Note: if there is no Sales Ranking for the ASIN on Amazon, there will be no ranking in this view.
  • Department – The Amazon department or category for which the Sales Rank in the previous field is applicable.
  • 30, 60 and 90 Day Totals – GMV and units sold for 30, 60 and 90 days.

Dealing with Incorrect Listing Details

When a listing detail page is created, it becomes a permanent catalog page on Amazon that will remain even if the creator’s inventory sells out. Other sellers can list their items for sale against the page if their items exactly match the page. If you believe sellers are listing against detail pages that do not exactly match their items, Amazon asks that you submit your complaint using this form:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/reports/contact-us

(Note: This is the link in US Seller Central. For other locales, please use the same process in your local Seller Central "Contact Us")

Please include this information in your report, as applicable:

  • Amazon.com Order ID of a test buy that confirms the violation (required)
  • A concise description of the differences between the item ordered and the item received (required)
  • The ASIN/ISBN of the item's detail page and the product title
  • The store or business name of the seller you are reporting
  • Any other evidence that supports your complaint

Amazon thoroughly investigate all reports. For privacy reasons, they cannot disclose the results of their investigations, but will take any disciplinary actions they find appropriate.
