How To

Using Jet Automatic Categorization

Jet offers a categorizer functionality that will automatically assign categories to products if you don’t provide a category value in your Marketplace template.

Prerequisites

Prior to configuring your account to utilize Jet Automatic Categorization, please read the following additional details to ensure this feature will fit your situation:

  • Automatic Categorization requires Amazon categorization data to determine an appropriate Jet Category ID – Items must be either listed on Amazon through the same ChannelAdvisor account or an ASIN value must be provided for each item in the ASIN default inventory field (not a custom inventory attribute).

  • Automatic Categorization requires valid Amazon credentials in the same ChannelAdvisor account as the Jet setup – You do not need to configure an Amazon feed but you will need to ensure you maintain valid Amazon Marketplace Account Credentials on the Marketplaces > Amazon > Settings > Amazon Settings page. For more help, contact Support .

  • Automatic Categorization can be used with items listed as variations – Create all of your inventory items with all of the details including the varying fields and their values. All related child items must be assigned to the same Jet Category ID. If Automatic Categorization is unable to determine a single Jet Category ID for all related children the error "Multiple categories specified for variant group. Children in this variant group are assigned to different categories as follows: [CATEGORY1, CATEGORY2]. Please choose the best category ID and assign to all children." will result on the Marketplaces > Jet > Product Status page.

  • The Jet product preview can be used to see the category that has been automatically assigned for an item – Once an item has been successfully categorized through Automatic Categorization you can use the Product Preview on the Marketplaces > Jet > Product Mapping > Template page to see the assigned category.

  • Jet controls the Jet Category ID that is assigned to an item using Automatic Categorization based on the item's related Amazon categorization and Jet may change their mappings from time to time. The automatic categorization process will use the information that is current at the time of posting though that could change after the item is listed. Every 90 days we will attempt a fresh categorization to ensure items are properly updated if needed.

Please note: The Jet Auto Categorizer doesn't work for all SKUs since our system doesn't have mappings for all browse nodes in Amazon.

Tasks to Complete

IMPORTANT: In order for the Jet Categorizer to function, you must have valid Amazon Seller Central credentials in the same ChannelAdvisor account as your Jet setup.

Please complete the following tasks:

  1. Navigate to Marketplaces > Jet > Jet Settings.
  2. Select Yes for the Enable Automatic Categorization setting.
  3. Navigate to Marketplaces > Jet > Template. Map the Category field if desired for any items that you want to manually assign categories for.

Note: If there is a mapping on the template for Category, it will be used by default. Leave the template mapping for Category blank – or ensure the mapping evaluates to a blank value – if you want to use Automatic Categorization for an item.

  4. Complete the required field mappings on the Jet template denoted by a red star icon.
  5. Navigate to Marketplaces > Settings > Jet Settings. Enable Product Syncs. Allow for a sync to complete. We will auto-categorize items during the sync.

Note: The SKU preview on the Jet template may not work for an item if it has not yet been auto-categorized. After we have successfully auto-categorized an item, the SKU preview will look like:

  6. Items that could not be categorized automatically will show the message A category match could not be found at this time. Please manually supply a Jet Category ID to list this item in Marketplaces > Jet > Product Status. You will need to manually map category IDs for items with that error. Category IDs can be found in the Jet taxonomy .

Example Set-ups

In this example the Category field on the template is not mapped so automatic categorization will be attempted for all items:

In this example the “Category” field on the template is mapped to an attribute so automatic categorization will be attempted for any items that do not have a value in the CASUGGESTEDJETCATEGORYID inventory attribute. Any items that have a value for CASUGGESTEDJETCATEGORYID will use that value:

You can also write a business rule to lookup an appropriate Jet category ID based on some other value.
