How To

Selling on MercadoLibre Cross-Border Trade

MercadoLibre Cross-Border Trade (CBT) is your hub to MercadoLibre in Latin America. The program is currently open for buyers in Brazil and Mexico, and is soon to be expanded to all 14 MercadoLibre countries throughout Latin America. MercadoLibre CBT is your gateway to the thriving Latin American e-commerce market, which grew by 11% year over year and is the fastest growing internet market. MercadoLibre is the #1 e-commerce site in Latin America, where the Brazilian and Mexican marketplaces represent 60% of the total MercadoLibre GMV. The MercadoLibre CBT program supports merchants in four areas:

  1. International logistics: After a transaction takes place, the US merchant ships the product to one of the MercadoLibre CBT warehouses in the US. Once the package has been received at the warehouse, MercadoLibre CBT handles the international logistics part, which includes the paperwork for importation, clearing customs, paying importation taxes, and delivering the product to the buyer.
  2. Payments: MercadoLibre CBT, through its payment unit - MercadoPago - , can take any local payment method in Brazil and Mexico. As a result, US merchants will be able to sell products and receive payments locally without opening a local branch. Payments are settled twice a month in the merchant's US bank account.
  3. Localization of listings: MercadoLibre CBT makes sure the content and price of your listings are localized to each country participating in the CBT program. They offer services to translate titles and descriptions. Regarding listing prices, MercadoLibre CBT calculates all costs related to the transaction before the product is listed. Those costs are: duties & taxes, international shipping, and MercadoLibre fee. The ‘Total Landed Cost’, or price the buyers see has the following components: merchant price, US domestic shipping cost, duties & taxes, international shipping cost, MercadoLibre fee.
  4. Fees: You don't pay listing fees or sales commissions when listing and selling your products on MercadoLibre CBT.
