Implementing Tracking Pixels with BigCommerce

If you are running comparison shopping and/or search campaigns in your Bigcommerce store, then you will want to make sure that you install your ChannelAdvisor tracking pixels on your new store. You should install both the Visit and the Order Confirmation pixels in your store. These pixels need to be placed in specific areas of your store to function properly. 

Please note: As these instructions are related to tasks performed in environments outside of ChannelAdvisor (BigCommerce and your website), they are provided as a convenience only. If you need assistance, please contact your web developer. ChannelAdvisor does not have access to perform these tasks for you.

Complete the following tasks related to this topic:

  1. Obtain ChannelAdvisor Pixel code from platform
  2. Install ChannelAdvisor Visit Pixel
  3. Install ChannelAdvisor Order pixel into Thank you page

 

1. Obtain ChannelAdvisor Tracking Pixels

To start the install process, you will need to obtain the tracking pixel code from the ChannelAdvisor application by following the steps below:

  1. Navigate to My Account > Account Settings > Tracking Pixels.
  2. Choose the option for My Order Confirmation (Thank You) page is on the same domain as my website.
  3. Further below on the page, you'll see the codes for the Visit Pixel and Order Tracking. You only need to copy and paste the Visit Pixel code snippet for use in step 2 below. We'll provide the Order Pixel code as a download in step 3 below.

( Note: If you are using the Shared BigCommerce SSL, then please refer to the instructions for Cross Domain checkouts instead.)

 

2. Install ChannelAdvisor Visit Pixel

Using the Visit Pixel obtained in the step above, the next step is to add the visit pixel code to your design template. This step is fairly straightforward. In general, a designer should be able to place the code directly into the layout file for the theme called header.html , or whichever file is used for the header of your template. It should appear on all pages of your site, including the checkout page. In BigCommerce, look under Settings > Design > More > Design Mode and have it render on the various pages on the site. The tracking pixel should be placed within the <HEAD></HEAD> tags on the header.html page.

The Visit Pixel should look like the following. You'll see your own account number in place of [PID goes here] below.

 

3. Install ChannelAdvisor Order Pixel

Please download the Order Pixel code (txt file) here . This snippet is already customized for BigCommerce. The only part you might want to adjust is the CurrencyCode, depending on the currency you use in your store. The Order pixel should look like this:

In BigCommerce, go to Settings › Advanced Settings › Affiliate Conversion Tracking. Paste your code in the Conversion Tracking Code area.
