Managing Keywords

Use the Campaign Manager view to review the list of keywords for a category and edit
the landing page URL.
  • If a keyword is a poor performer, consider changing the match type, ad copy, landing page or position to improve performance.
  • Consider pausing a keyword for a period of time if it is out of stock or a poor performer.
  • Match type identifiers are supported for Google, Ask.com and Yahoo! when using the Auto Track feature. You will be able to see if keywords are exact, broad,
phrase or advance in the reports.

Match type identifiers on the engines:

Keyword Google Yahoo! Ask.com
[keyword] exact standard exact
"keyword" phrase
keyword broad advanced broad

The Paid Search Module will prevent users from launching keywords with domains that do not match what we have on file for your account.

Editing a keyword

There are several different ways to edit keywords.
  1. To change the bid, use the Power Bid tool by going to Optimization > Power Bid. Enter the new bids in the format TrackingID**NewBid
  2. To edit the Base URL, click on the Edit button next to a keyword, or edit Base URLs in bulk by going to Tools > Update Base URLs:
  3. To pause or resume keywords, check the box next to the keywords and click on the Pause or Resume button.

Negative keywords

ChannelAdvisor supports the use of negative keywords on Google ad groups. Negative keywords can be added as exact, phrase, or broad match type.
  1. To add a negative keyword to an ad group, click New Keyword and select the Provider, Provider Account, Campaign, and Ad Group.
  2. When Google is selected as the provider, a second box appears for negative keywords. Add your negatives to this box. Only the negative keyword needs to be entered, no landing page or bid.
  3. Negative keywords cannot be paused on Google, they must be deleted directly on Google Adwords.
  4. Negative keywords cannot be bulk uploaded to ChannelAdvisor, adding negative keywords to an ad group is only done in the user interface.
If you wish to add negative keywords to your MSN and Yahoo campaigns, you would need to do this directly in the search engine editor and then sync your ChannelAdvisor account.
