Generating Tracking URLs

If a keyword is created within ChannelAdvisor, either by using the add a keyword feature, a bulk upload, or from Inventory Driven Search, tracking is automatically created for the keyword URL. However, there are some situations where tracking URLs need to be manually created and then assigned. For example, tracking URLs can be used in an email marketing campaign. This way, clicks and orders for the email campaign can be measured in ChannelAdvisor, and assists from one marketing campaign to the other can be seen. Or, if you advertise on the Search Providers' Display networks, tracking URLs need to be assigned manually to the ad creative to track clicks and conversions.

How to Track Email Campaigns


The Paid Search module has the capability to track email campaigns - specifically the hits, assists, orders and revenue that are generated from emails. The email tracking works by having the customer use one of our redirect tracking url's and embed it in their URL.

To track email campaigns: 

  1. From Paid Search > Campaigns > Tools drop down, select Generate Tracking URLs
  2. Select Email from the Provider drop down. This page works by entering a keyword and a landing page URL. For email the Keyword should describe the email campaign.
    Example:  july 20 2009 email promo**http://www.mysite.com
  3. Click Save. The page will return a link to an Excel spreadsheet that will include the tracking URL, http://tracking.searchmarketing.com....,
  4. Embed the tracking URL in the email's html before it is sent out.

How to Track Google Site Links

Sitelinks are a feature within Google Adwords that allow advertsisers to add up to ten sub-links that can be used to direct visitors deeper into their site.  Sitelinks are promoted underneath the Display URL and link to informational or category pages within the site.  To track the performance of these links, you will need Generate Tracking URLs which you can then add within the Adwords interface. 

To create site links: 

  1. From Paid Search > Campaigns > Tools drop down, select Generate Tracking URL
  2. Select Google Adwords from the Provider drop down. This page works by entering a keyword and a landing page URL. For SiteLinks the Keyword should describe the sub-link you are creating it for. 
    Example: free shipping_site link**http://www.mysite.com
  3. Click Save. The page will return a link to an Excel spreadsheet that will include the tracking URL, http://tracking.searchmarketing.com.....
  4. Add the Tracking URL in the Campaign settings module in Adwords for any Campaign with Sitelinks enabled.
