How To

Updating Base URLs

From time to time, you may want to update the landing pages for your paid search keywords. You should manage the landing page URLs in ChannelAdvisor rather than the provider. There are two ways to update base URLs using ChannelAdvisor depending on how many URLs you need to update, and your comfort level:  via Actionable Reporting or with an Excel spreadsheet.

If you have just a few Base URLs to update, you may do so in ChannelAdvisor by using Actionable Reporting:

  1. In ChannelAdvisor, navigate to Digital Marketing > Marketing Management > Actionable Reporting.
  2. Select the Keywords Performance tab.
  3. Filter or sort to select the set of keywords for which you would like to edit Base URLs.
  4. Select the keywords using the check box to the left of each line.
  5. Click Update URLs in the tool bar at the top of the Actionable Reporting grid.
  6. Input the new landing page (Destination URL).
  7. Click Save.

Alternatively, you may find it easier to use an Excel spreadsheet to update your Base URLs if you have many to update:

  1. Identify the keywords that you want to update.
  2. Download the keywords you want to update into a spreadsheet. In ChannelAdvisor, go to Digital Marketing > Marketing Management > Actionable Reporting:
    1. Click on the Keywords Performance tab.
    2. Make sure Tracking ID is one of the visible columns in the grid.  (If not, click Columns to add Tracking ID to the list of Visible Columns, and Apply Changes to see it in the grid.)
    3. Select the keywords for which you would like to edit Base URLs using the check box to the left of each line.  (You may use the filter or sort options at the top of the grid to find the keywords you are looking for.)
    4. Click Export.  Your spreadsheet will be downloaded.
  3. Open the downloaded spreadsheet, and create the new URLs.
  4. Concatenate them with the Tracking ID, using the ** format of {Tracking ID}**{Base URL}

Example:  1234567**http://mysite.com/newurl.html

  1. Return to Digital Marketing > Marketing Management > Actionable Reporting, and select Tools > Update Base URLs.
  2. Copy and paste these new URLs (with the concatenated format above) into the section. Click Save.
