Rakuten Error Troubleshooting Guide

When listing to Rakuten.com Shopping it is possible that you encounter listing errors. The table below outlines the common ones and provides potential solutions to fix the error and ensure the affected product is listed successfully on the marketplace.

Data Match Error

Rakuten.com Shopping could not find a match for the Product ID.

If you are not sending new SKUs to Rakuten, please contact Rakuten for a Proposed Match Report. Any data mismatches on UPC, MPN, or Manufacturer Name will need to be corrected.

If you are sending new SKUs, verify in your Rakuten.com > Settings page that you have the setting New Products Enabled = Yes on your feed.

Email merchants@marketplace.rakuten.com to get the Proposed Match Report. You will then need to validate that the UPC, MPN, and Manufacturer Name for the SKU in ChannelAdvisor matches the item in Rakuten.

The information that Rakuten has for each SKU is in the columns for: BDC UPC, BDC Mfg Name, BDC Mfg Part No. These must match the Seller UPC, Seller Mfg Name, and Seller Mfg Part No columns (which are the data from ChannelAdvisor).

If Rakuten has the wrong data in the Proposed Match Report for your items, you have to submit a case to get the data changed. Alternatively, create the attribute with the Rakuten information and map that on the template to get it through.

When sending new products through to Rakuten, ensure that you have the New Products Feed enabled on the Rakuten.com > Settings page.

Product Could Not Be Added

ChannelAdvisor tried to send pricing and quantity data for SKU XXXX to Rakuten.com Shopping but the item could not be found on Rakuten.

Review the product to ensure that there are no other errors on the SKU that may be preventing this SKU from being added and updated.

This error can be returned for a few different use cases.

First, check your item in the Marketplaces > Rakuten.com > Products > Product Status view to ensure that the product doesn’t have any error that accompanies this ones that would have prevented the product from being added.

Second, validate that you have the New Products Feed enabled on the Rakuten.com > Settings page.

If neither of these are the case, then you can request a Proposed Match Report from merchants@marketplace.rakuten.com to validate that  the UPC, MPN, and Manufacturer Name for the SKU in ChannelAdvisor matches the item in Rakuten.

Missing Product Attribute

A Rakuten.com Shopping error was received while sending product data for SKU XXXX.

Update the data on your product and ChannelAdvisor will resend the information to Rakuten.

Rakuten has certain valid values and field requirements to list to the marketplace. Please review your Rakuten template mapping to ensure you have all of the required fields mapped and that there are no errors on any of the valid values.

To determine what field is missing for a specific sku, please utilize the Product Preview feature within the template.

For information on the valid values that Rakuten will allow for a field, visit the New SKU Feed page ( http://www.rakuten.com/ct/stores/tocfeature.aspx?loc=67031 ) and click on the Category Attributes download for your category.

Invalid Value due to Format

Your item with SKU XXXX did not fit the proper format for the category-id field. Correct this issue by changing the field value to fit the allowed format: \d{4,6}. The value given was “XXX”

Rakuten requires a category for each item listed on the marketplace. These categories are 4 or 6 digits. Please review your Rakuten template preview and ensure that for this item you are sending either a 4 or 6 digit category.

Invalid type error

An invalid type error occurred while trying to process SKU XXXX. [Validation message information].

The value that you are sending through for the item does not match the data type that Rakuten has specified for this field.

Data types include decimals (ex. 1.5), integers (whole numbers ex. 5), and strings (ex. test). Using the Rakuten template preview, ensure that you are sending the correct data type for this field based on the validation message.

Invalid text

The SKU XXXX has invalid text for [field Y]. [Information on the text error]

The value that is sent to Rakuten is invalid for this field.

For information on the valid values that Rakuten will allow for a field, visit the New Sku Feed page ( http://www.rakuten.com/ct/stores/tocfeature.aspx?loc=67031 ) and click on the Category Attributes download for your category.

Invalid length

The value given had a length which was too large.

Rakuten has character limits for each field. Please reference the template mapping tool tip for more information on the character limits.

Product Failed to List

The system tried to submit SKU XXX to Rakuten but an unrecognized error was received from the marketplace: [Error from marketplace].

This is an Unknown Product Failed to List error that we receive back from the marketplace. These will automatically get resent to Rakuten.

Duplicate Product Condition Not Allowed

The system tried to submit SKU XXXX but the product already exists with this condition in your Rakuten.com Shopping inventory.

The product you are trying to send is already listed in Seller Tools and they only allow one Reference ID (seller SKU) per condition.

You will need to go to Seller Tools ( https://rmsportal.rakuten.com/Login.aspx?rdu=%2fDefault.aspx ) to change the Reference ID one by one to match the SKU in ChannelAdvisor via the listing data fields, or in bulk by contacting Rakuten at merchants@marketplace.rakuten.com .

GTIN invalid UPC error

ChannelAdvisor tried to submit SKU XXXX to Rakuten.com Shopping but was rejected because the GTIN value is not a valid UPC. Please correct this issue and we will attempt to resubmit the product. If the Product ID Type is ‘UPC’, update the Product ID too so the GTIN and Product ID continue to match.

Check your item to ensure that you are sending a valid registered UPC (12 to 14 digits) or EAN (13 digits) and that it has the correct number of digits.

Product Not Yet Added

ChannelAdvisor tried to send pricing and quantity data for SKU XXXX to Rakuten.com Shopping but the item could not yet be found in the Rakuten catalog.

Rakuten may take 2 hours to add a new product to their catalog.

[Validation message from Rakuten]

This product is in the process of being added to Rakuten. Quantity is unable to update because the product doesn’t exist yet on the site.

If it has been more than 2 hours for your item, visit the Marketplaces > Rakuten.com > Settings page and click Submit and then Submit All Products to clear any of these errors.

GTIN Matching Error

When you submit UPC as your Product ID, the GTIN field is required to match the Product ID value. ChannelAdvisor tried to submit SKU XXXX to Rakuten.com Shopping but was rejected because these values do not match.

Using the Product Preview feature within the Rakuten template, validate for this SKU that the Product ID and UPC values that are mapped are returning the same value. 

SKU Not Available

The system tried to submit SKU XXXX to Rakuten.com Shopping, but the product is not available for listing at this time.

This error is generally returned in two scenarios:

  1. The category that is listed for the item is one that is restricted and sellers need permission to list under.

  2. There is an override that was placed on the item by Rakuten that does not allow specific sellers to sell the item.

Product ID Already in Use

SKU XXXX attempted to send to Rakuten.com Shopping but the Product ID given already exists for another SKU in your Rakuten inventory.

The product you are trying to send is already shown in Seller Tools and Rakuten does not allow duplicate Product IDs.

You will need to go to Seller Tools ( https://rmsportal.rakuten.com/Login.aspx?rdu=%2fDefault.aspx ) to validate that you do not have a duplicate Product ID for your items. 

Special Characters in SKU

A Rakuten.com Shopping error was received while sending product data for SKU XXXX.

Special characters in one of the fields could cause this SKU to fail.

Update your product information and ChannelAdvisor will resend your data to Rakuten.

Validate for your SKU that there are no encoded special characters or spaces in the SKU that were copied from the web (which have some encoding in them).
