Amazon Cancellations & Refunds Unique Circumstances

The Order Details page in your ChannelAdvisor account – as well as the fulfillment, shipping, and refund options contained therein – are generally presented in a uniform manner regardless of the source of the order, but not all marketplaces afford ChannelAdvisor the same options when sending refunds from your account to the marketplace. This page details the available options for issuing refunds specifically for Amazon orders, as well as special circumstances surrounding refund behavior unique to the particular marketplace.

Amazon Cancellations and Refunds – Details and Unique Circumstances


  • Amazon payment handling: Amazon orders are imported into ChannelAdvisor in a "payment cleared" state. However, Amazon does not actually charge payment to the buyer until the order is shipped. If a customer requests a refund or uses the ‘Cancel Sale’ option within Amazon, a failed refund attempt will be displayed on the Order Details page. This is normal.

Partial quantity line item cancelSupported. Quantity is not restocked directly on Amazon without either a ‘no inventory’ or ‘merchandise not received’ code. Quantity will be restocked in ChannelAdvisor if the ‘Restock the Quantity for Refunded Items’ option is selected, which will be pushed to Amazon in the subsequent product feed.
Full order refundSupported. Refund amount must be adjusted to account for restocking fee if applicable. Quantity is not restocked directly on the marketplace. Quantity will be restocked in ChannelAdvisor/sent to Amazon same as above.
Line item refundSupported. Quantity will be restocked in ChannelAdvisor/sent to Amazon same as above.
