Working with Ad Groups

Ad groups are groups of keywords, ads and bids that you have defined within the interface for search engine providers. Please follow the steps below to manage ad groups and ad creatives.

How to Create Ad Groups

To setup an ad group, follow the steps below:

  1. In ChannelAdvisor, select Digital Marketing > Marketing Management > Actionable Reporting.
  2. Select the Ad Groups tab.
  3. Click New Ad Group. The Create a New Ad Group page opens.
  4. Select Provider, Provider Account, and Campaign from each respective drop-down menu.
  5. Enter the Ad Group name.
  6. Enter the Max CPC (maximum cost per click).
  7. Click Submit. The new ad group can be seen on the All Ad Groups view of the Actionable Reporting grid.

 

How to Edit Ad Groups

To edit an ad group, follow the steps below:

  1. In ChannelAdvisor, select Digital Marketing > Marketing Management > Actionable Reporting.
  2. Select the Ad Groups tab:
    • Select Ad Groups Performance to see performance for all Active, Paused, or Deleted ad groups.
    • Select Ad Groups Library to see the library of ad groups, which contains all of the above statuses, plus inactive ad groups.
    • Optionally, you can use our Sort and Filter features to refine your selection.
  3. At the ad group level, you can make changes to the following elements of each ad group:
    • Ad Group Name: Hover over the field in the Ad Group column in the grid and click the pencil edit icon. Enter the new ad group name and click Save.
    • Ad Group Status: Select the check box next to the ad group on the far left and click the appropriate status button icon (to resume, pause, or delete the ad group) at the top of the grid. Click Save.
    • Ad Group level bid (Max CPC): Hover over the field in the Max CPC column in the grid and click the pencil edit icon. Enter the new bid and click Save.
    • Mobile Bid Adjustment: Hover over the field in the Mobile Bid Adjustment column in the grid and click the pencil edit icon. Select to either increase or decrease the bid for mobile, and enter the percentage to increase or decrease the bid, respectively, then click Save.

 

How to Add New Creatives

  1. In ChannelAdvisor, select Digital Marketing > Marketing Management > Actionable Reporting.
  2. Select the Ads tab.
  3. Click New Ad. (The New Ad drop-down menu allows you to select the Provider for the ad; Google or Bing icons are clickable.)
  4. The New Ad frame appears.
    1. Select the status (Active is selected by default).
    2. Under Provider Details, select:
      1. Ad Type: Text Ad or Dynamic Search Ad (for Google only)
      2. Campaign Name
      3. Ad Group Name
    3. Under Ad Text, enter the Ad Group Creative, including:
      1. Headline: Google and Bing both have a 25 character limit.
      2. Display URL: Google and Bing both have a 35 character limit.
      3. Description: Google – 35 character limit; Bing – 70 character limit.
      4. Description (Line 2): Google only – 35 character limit.
      5. Destination URL: Google – 1024 character limit; Bing – destination URLs are set to {param1} automatically so that keyword destination URLs are used and tracked when serving ads.
    4. Google Only: Under Options, select the Device Preference of All or Mobile.
  5. Click Save.
