How To

Sears Tax Changes

Sears Sales Tax Jurisdiction

  • Effective July 29, 2015 , Sears Marketplace will provide sellers the freedom to make their own tax determinations as to which jurisdictions their customers will be charged state sales tax, local sales tax, and use tax.

Sears Marketplace will now only collect state and local sales and use tax on purchases of merchandise in jurisdictions where the marketplace seller indicates it has a tax remittance and filing obligation. As a result, every seller is now solely responsible for remitting and reporting all sales and use tax collected from the online purchaser to the taxing jurisdictions in which the seller is subject to tax.

  • Beginning on February 18, 2015 , Marketplace Sellers can visit their business account profile located within the Seller Portal and select which taxing jurisdictions Sears Marketplace will charge and collect tax in.

  • When the new policy goes into effect July 29, 2015 , Sears Marketplace will continue to add tax only on merchandise sales in the jurisdictions the seller affirmatively selected in their business account profile.

  • PLEASE NOTE: This is extremely important for every seller to indicate the jurisdictions in which they are currently subject to tax. Any failure on part of the seller to collect and remit state and local sales and use tax in jurisdictions in which they are subject to a legal tax remittance and reporting requirement may result in the seller incurring a tax liability in that jurisdiction. Additionally, Sears will turn off the seller's account if they fail to select their tax jurisdiction.

The Shipping Restrictions field can be filled using a text value, attribute, lookup list or business rule. The list should be comma-separated. Only states that are called out using this field will be marked as states where the seller will not ship.

Variation Support

This field uses the same value for all related child/variation products. There are two ways to map data to this field:

1) The value can be defined on the parent product.

2) If the parent product does not have a value, all the child/variation products must have the same value.

If this field is not populated, all states will be available for shipping by default.
