How To

Strikethrough Pricing & Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) on eBay

eBay has created the ability for select accounts to show discounted Strikethrough Pricing and list pricing below the Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) by hiding the value from the buyer. Please keep in mind that the use of these features would require eBay's approval. Once eBay has given approval, ChannelAdvisor Support can enable both of these features so that they can be mapped within your Posting/Feed Templates. If you are not yet approved for this feature, you can do so by contacting your eBay Account Manager.

What is Strikethrough Pricing and Minimum Advertised Price (MAP)?

Strikethrough Pricing

This feature allows a seller to show a discounted price on the eBay listing. This is displayed as the original MSRP price that has a strikethrough and a Sales Price displayed below it.

For sellers in the UK and German locales, Strikethrough Pricing offers two different ways to state the origin of the price with the strikethrough. For more information please check our FAQ on Strikethrough Comparison Price Exposure .

Minimum Advertised Price (MAP)

MAP pricing is the lowest price that a manufacturer will allow an item to be advertised at. In order for a seller to list an item below the manufacturer’s MAP, it would need to be hidden from the main purchasing view (Listings Page).

eBay offers two display rules when using MAP (configured in your Posting/Feed Template too):

  1. During Checkout – The MAP pricing would not be visible until either the See price at checkout link or Buy It Now button is clicked.

  2. Pre-Checkout – Click on the See Price link to pull up a hidden textbox with pricing information.

How to Configure These Features

Strikethrough and MAP Pricing are enabled on the Posting/Feed Template under Item Information once they have been enabled for your account by both eBay and ChannelAdvisor

Please note: These features ONLY work if the value is higher than what is stated as the Sales Price.

In the above screenshot, you can see that the Sales Price (red arrow), is a lower price value than both the Minimum Advertised Price AND the Strikethrough Price values (green arrows). This would allow both features to be used.

Additional information

  • If the Sales Price value is greater than or equal to the price set within one of the features, that feature will not be applied to the eBay listing.
  • In the configuration screenshot, Retail Price and Starting Price are used for these features. These are not required as these features can use any fields/business rules/static prices when being configured.
  • It is NOT necessary to use both features at the same time.
  • As shown in the MAP screenshots, if ONLY MAP pricing is used, a strikethrough will still be shown through the given value.
  • If you no longer want Strikethrough Pricing or MAP Pricing to be displayed on a listing, it is important to set the value to where the feature will not be in use:
    • Value equal to Sales Price value
    • Value lower than Sales Price value
    • Please note: Simply removing the value will NOT result in the dismissal of this feature for the desired listing.
  • All children in the variation must use the same price mapping. If one child uses MAP pricing, all need to be using MAP pricing.
