How To

Using Deal Planner to Schedule Offers

Ever wanted to be able to adjust quantity, price, and/or subtitle for a selected amount of time?

Setting up a Deal Planner

  1. Navigate to Marketplaces > eBay > Optimization > Deals and Promotions.
  2. Click on the Create button and select Create a Deal
  3. Fill on the following fields:

    1. Name (Required) – Can be any name desired, and does not have to be unique.

      • Select the appropriate time zone that applies for this deal. Many deals coordinated with eBay are specified in the time zone of the eBay marketplace.
    3. End Time (Required) – Must be in the future and no more than one month after the start date.
      • Select the appropriate time zone that applies for this deal. Many deals coordinated with eBay are specified in the time zone of the eBay marketplace.
    4. Deal Parameters
      • At least one of the following Deal Parameters must be configured:

        1. Quantity: Enter the quantity that should be used when the deal begins. Quantity will never be greater than your available quantity for the SKU. When the deal concludes, quantity will revert to the value configured in the schedule. If no value is entered, the quantity in the listing will be unaffected.
        2. Price: Enter the price value that should be used for the duration of the deal. If no value is entered, the price in the listing will be unaffected.
        3. Subtitle: Enter the subtitle value that should be used for the duration of the deal. If no value is entered, the subtitle in the listing will be unaffected.
      • If free shipping should be applied to the first domestic shipping method, select the checkbox.  This will override any shipping rates configured in a Business Policy or on the Posting Template.
      • Select if quantity should be restocked when sales occur during the deal. If only a limited quantity should be available for buyers at the promotional deal price, quantity should not be restocked .
      • If the deal is for an eBay Daily Deal, select the checkbox. This should only be used when eBay has already approved the Daily Deal. Please note that this does not create a Daily Deal at eBay.
    5. Listing Filters – Choose from a combination of Label, Brand, Category Number, Price Range and Quantity Range to select your items that will be part of this Deal Planner.

      • If multiple values are selected in a single filter (e.g. "Clearance" and "Damaged Items" in the Label list above), then a listing must match at least one of the selected options.
        • Multiple values may be configured for Label, Brand, and Category Number.
      • If multiple filters are configured (e.g. Brand and Price Range), then a listing must meet all of the filters to be included as part of the deal.
      • Once the filters have been selected, click the Test Filter button to test how many open listings qualify based on the rules of this filter.
      • Once filters have been selected, click the Save and Exit button.
    6. If you would like to assign select specific items to the Deal Planner, please select the Save and Assign Specific Listings button. This will allow you to select items from the open listings view to be applied to this Deal Planner.

Restock Quantity Option

Some offers have to display a selected amount of quantity on the listing. If that is the case, there is an ability to select Restock that will always restock that quantity if available.

For example, let’s say that you are submitting a Deal Planner for an offer that can only display 25 quantity on the listing, but you have more than 25 you are willing to sell at that price. If you select the “Restock” option, the quantity will be restocked back up to 25 after each sale as long as there is sufficient available quantity on the SKU. This should be avoided for deals that will sell many items quickly, as there is a risk of oversell when quantity is restocked when there are multiple sales per hour on a listing.

If you only have 25 to sell at this specific price, do not select the restock option. This will ensure that the deal will begin at 25 and sell down to zero. Once the deal ends, both the price and quantity will revert to the standard values configured for the SKU based on the schedule.

Common Questions

Question Answer
The deal is active, but there is a revision error preventing the scheduled change from updating on the listing. What do I do?

Resolve the revision error. As long as the deal is still active, the next revision will update the listing with the desired price/quantity/subtitle set on the deal. Please contact Support if you need assistance with resolving the revision error.

I made a mistake! How do I end the deal early?

To end a deal immediately, set the end time to the current time and save. The deal will be ended within the next few minutes. Please keep in mind that you cannot set the end time to a time in the past.
The other option for ending a deal early is to select the deal from the main Deal Planner view and click End Promotion Now.

How are revisions processed while a deal is active?

Changes to the item, ad, template, or schedule will result in an update to the listing via a revision just like normal. The only difference is that while the deal is active, the price/quantity/subtitle set on the deal will override normal settings.
For example:

  • The price field on the template is mapped to Buy It Now price ($50.00).
  • The active deal has Price set to $45.00.

While the deal is active, a revision will update everything like normal, EXCEPT Price will be calculated based on the deal setting, and ChannelAdvisor will send a price of $45.00. Once the deal ends, a revision will be sent with a price of $50.00.

Do I need to do anything special to ensure that my deal starts on time?

No, ChannelAdvisor will begin preparing the revision for the listings included in the deal a few minutes before the scheduled start time. This ensures that the deal starts on time. Please note that this does not affect the end time of the deal.

Can a listing be on multiple deals at the same time?

No, a listing can only be on one deal at a time. If a listing is assigned to two deals, the listing will initially have the earlier deal active. Later, when the second deal starts, it will "win". Changes from the first deal will fall off and changes from the second deal will be applied to the listing.

I accidentally set an invalid Quantity value on the deal (ie. 24.99, ABC). What will happen?

Quantity has to be a valid, whole number. If an invalid value is set, quantity will not be updated on the listing when the deal is activated. If price/subtitle parameters were set, those changes will be made, but existing quantity on the listing will be preserved.
