How To

Using the Google Content API

Please Note: If you would like to use the Google Content API please contact ChannelAdvisor Support.

With ChannelAdvisor Digital Marketing, you can submit updated product data to Google using the Content API. As your products update in ChannelAdvisor inventory, we will detect those changed products and send them immediately to Google through their API. The process usually takes 15-30 minutes from the time your products update in ChannelAdvisor.

The primary benefit of using this feature is that your products will have updated data at Google much faster, preventing you from advertising out-of-stock products, or out-of-date pricing.

Requirements

  • ChannelAdvisor Inventory: In order to use this feature, you must be using ChannelAdvisor inventory. Clients that use External Data File inventory must convert their accounts to use ChannelAdvisor inventory in order to use this feature. If you see the navigation menu item Inventory Feed in ChannelAdvisor under Digital Marketing > Account Settings your account uses External Data File inventory (or a hybrid configuration - which is also not eligible). Please contact support if you wish to convert to ChannelAdvisor inventory.

  • Authorize ChannelAdvisor to Use the API: You must authorize ChannelAdvisor to submit product data using the Content API at Google. In order to do this, login into ChannelAdvisor and your Google Merchant Center account in 2 tabs in a browser. Go to the Google Shopping Dashboard ( Digital Marketing > Dashboards > Google Shopping ). In the Feed Data Quality section, click on the Set Merchant Center ID button to provide your Merchant Center ID (top left in Google Merchant Center). In ChannelAdvisor, click the Authorize Google button and follow the instructions. When you start seeing Data Quality statistics, we are authorized to use the API on your behalf. If you have a Parent Merchant Center account, you may need to authorize us to the parent account first. The Google Content API is used to submit product data, manage data feeds, and retrieve Data Quality information only. It is separate from the AdWords API.

  • Weekly Google Full Feeds: When we start using the API, we will switch your full feed to Google to run weekly. The reason the full feed will still run is that this will prevent products that are not updated using the API from expiring off Google after 30 days. The week interval is recommended by Google.

  • No Business Rule Date Functions: On your Google Shopping template, you should not use business rule functions which use Date functions, like AddToCurrentDate. Those functions depend on the current date, and we will only evaluate those functions when your product's data is updated.

Once you are enabled on the API, if you need to pause the API, please contact ChannelAdvisor support.
