How To

Using the Marketplaces Inventory Reconciler

The ChannelAdvisor Marketplaces integration assumes that ChannelAdvisor is the "system of record" – meaning all updates to your inventory information should be made via the ChannelAdvisor platform. If you update your products directly on the Marketplace, unanticipated results may occur, including the possibility of overselling. For this reason, ChannelAdvisor has created the Inventory Reconciler to help safeguard your listings from the possibility of overselling.

The Reconciler is available for the following marketplaces:

  • Amazon.com
  • Rakuten US

How it Works

  1. You can enable the Inventory Reconciler in the marketplace settings during initial setup. But it will not be activated until you have sent at least one successful feed to the marketplace. This will help ensure that your listings managed outside of ChannelAdvisor are not removed too early during the migration phase of your project.
    • Please note: The ChannelAdvisor platform does not differentiate between a feed sent for testing purposes and a feed sent for production use – both would be deemed as successfel feeds. Therefore, if you are testing your ChannelAdvisor / Marketplace integration, you may want to disable the feature until you are ready to have it perform reconciliation as intended.
    • The Settings page will display the Activation Date to indicate the date that Reconciler began reconciling your inventory.
  2. Once activated, once a day, your marketplace products configured in ChannelAdvisor will be compared to those already listed on the marketplace. The Reconciler examines product pricing, quantity, and listing status only.
  3. If ChannelAdvisor detects that any changes were made to your products on the marketplace outside of the ChannelAdvisor platform, the differences found will be reconciled according to the behavior you have configured.
  4. Updates made to your marketplace products within the ChannelAdvisor platform will continue to update on the marketplace as expected. Important: Price updates made within ChannelAdvisor will only be processed if you have the Product Prices option of the Reconciler enabled.

What Gets Updated

The Reconciler will perform different actions based on the settings configured on the Inventory Reconciliation settings page, as shown below (click to enlarge):

Scenarios

Quantity changed on Marketplace

For all accounts regardless of Reconciler settings:

  • If quantity on the Marketplace is higher than ChannelAdvisor, the Marketplace quantity will be overridden.
  • If quantity on the Marketplace is lower than ChannelAdvisor, no changes will be made.
  • If product on the Marketplace is not being managed by ChannelAdvisor, no changes will be made.

Listing Status Changes

If you've enabled the Reconciler for Product Listings - I only list products through ChannelAdvisor option:

  • If ChannelAdvisor detects products on the Marketplace that are not assigned to an active ChannelAdvisor Marketplace feed, the Reconciler will withdraw those products from the Marketplace.
  • This option is recommended to ensure the catalog parity between the two platforms and to prevent oversells.
  • When this setting is selected and you remove a product from your ChannelAdvisor label, ChannelAdvisor will remove the product from Amazon. This has two benefits:
    • ChannelAdvisor supports listing separate catalogs to each Amazon marketplace. If your Amazon account is a North American or a European Unified Account, you are able to list a SKU on just one of your Amazon marketplaces instead of all of them.
    • ChannelAdvisor will remove the clutter of old SKUs from your Amazon Seller Central views.
