How To

Using Reference Field Mappings

Reference Fields are default, ChannelAdvisor-defined fields used for default templates and business rules. If your inventory fields are properly mapped to the reference fields on the Reference Field Mappings page, we will replace the reference field with the correct inventory field and all default templates will be properly configured to use the correct fields in your inventory.  Reference Fields allow us to perform many mappings for you automatically when you load a new template.

Please Note: If default templates are created prior to mapping reference fields, all fields in the template will be blank and default business rules may not work properly.  For that reason, it is crucial to configure the Reference Field Mappings prior to creating any new feed destinations.

Reference Field Mapping Process

Configuring the mappings on the Reference Field Mappings page is straight-forward.  The Reference Field column contains the ChannelAdvisor-defined reference fields and the Inventory Field column contains the unique fields from your ChannelAdvisor inventory and include both core fields and custom attributes.

  1. In ChannelAdvisor, navigate to Digital Marketing > Account Settings > Reference Field Mappings .
  2. Using the dropdown menu select the field in your inventory that represents the corresponding reference field on the left.
    • Click on the question mark icon next to each reference field to view details about what each field represents.
  3. When done save your settings.

Please Note: It is not necessary to complete all fields. Only complete the fields that you have data for and will be sending to the comparison shopping sites. At a minimum we suggest completing the following fields for shopping engines:

  • Model
  • MPN
  • MerchantCategory
  • RegularPrice
  • CurrentPrice
  • OfferName
  • OfferDescription
  • ActionURL
  • Condition
