How To

Associating a Product Image to a Product Variant in Shopify

If you list products with variations on your Shopify store, you may want to associate product images for each variant. For example, if you have a shirt available in multiple colors, you may want to display images for each of those colors.

Your Shopify theme must first be modified to support associating product images to product variants. Visit the Shopify FAQ for instructions.
The instructions that Shopify provide on how to set up the code are specifically for the Shopify theme called Radiance.  However, with some modifications to the code, you may be able to set this up for other themes as well. Click here to access the theme store.

You will also map the alt text fields in your ChannelAdvisor template.

Tasks to Complete

  1. Navigate to your Shopify template in ChannelAdvisor at Webstores > Shopify > Template.
  2. Locate the Alt Text for Image 1 field.
  3. Map the field to provide the Color, Style, or Size value that you want to match it with.
  4. Repeat for any alternate images you want to provide.

For example:

If you sell t-shirts that are available in multiple colors:

  1. Your parent SKU has the Product Image URL 1 field in the Shopify template mapped to an Inventory Field named IMAGEURL1.
  2. You map the Alt Text for Image 1 field to Inventory Field > Color.
  3. This means that a child SKU with the value "Red" in the Color field will have its IMAGEURL1 provided as the image for the product variant, which should be a picture of your t-shirt in Red.
