How To

Shopify POS

Shopify offers a Point of Sale system, Shopify POS, which is an iPad App that uses the same product and customer data as the Shopify Webstore. This makes the management of your online webstore and retail location easier.

The ChannelAdvisor Webstores Amplifier for Shopify completely supports Shopify POS. Once you install the Shopify POS app on your iPad, your webstore and retail store will be in-sync. Your product information, orders and customer information all live in one system so that you are never worried about updating your POS system separately from your webstore. Both your webstore and retail orders from Shopify will be imported into ChannelAdvisor for full visibility into your sales.

Prerequisites

To use the Shopify Point of Sale (POS) platform, you will need to:

  1. Have a Shopify Webstore powered by the ChannelAdvisor Webstores Amplifer for Shopify. Contact your ChannelAdvisor Sales Representative to purchase the Webstore Amplifier.
  2. Install the Shopify POS application from the Apple AppStore onto your iPad.

Configure POS on iPad

When you open the Shopify POS App for the first time, you will be prompted to Log In and add in your store credentials.

  • Store URL (storename.myshopify.com)
  • Username
  • Password

These credentials will be the same as your online store and will sync the webstore with the POS system.

Viewing Products

Once the Shopify POS App is configured, the products that you have labeled for Shopify will now appear on the product view of the Shopify POS app.

Orders

Where to Find POS orders in ChannelAdvisor

Orders created through the POS platform will appear in the All Sales view under the channel Retail Stores and the site name Shopify POS .

Handling Items in an Order Without a Customer

Orders that are created from a retail store are less likely to include customer information such as name, address, email address and phone number. When an order is placed on the POS App without customer information, ChannelAdvisor will use a proxy customer named “Shopify POS Guest Customer” along with the store’s address in the shipping location.

Handling Retail Sales that Need to Ship

Most sales that occur in a retail location are already fulfilled. Occasionally, however, customers place orders in the store that need to be shipped after the sale. ChannelAdvisor will set the Shipping Status when importing Shopify POS orders according to the status on the POS system.

  • If the Shopify status = fulfilled, the order is imported with a Shipping Status of Shipped to ensure that you do not attempt to fulfill the order again.
  • If the Shopify status = unfulfilled, the order is imported with a Shipping Status of Not Yet Shipped , similar to the standard Shopify webstore order.

Handling Items in an Order Without a SKU

Shopify POS supports the ability to create a sale without a SKU. When you create a Custom Sale order in the POS system, it will be imported into your ChannelAdvisor account using a proxy SKU named POS_NOSKU , so that you have complete visibility into the sales of your retail store.

POS Order GMV

When the Shopify POS Platform is turned on in your ChannelAdvisor account, GMV will be shown in the Retail Stores channel and the Shopify POS site.
