How To

Where to Buy

Where to Buy is one of our newest additions to the ChannelAdvisor platform and part of our ChannelAdvisor for Brands iniative. It connects branded manufacturers with preferred resellers and/or consumers directly.

How It Works

At the highest level, our solution allows a consumer on a brand site or marketing campaign (e.g., display ad) to easily locate retailers that have an item of interest in stock and link to those retailers, easing the path to purchase for the consumer. Starting from that very basic premise, here are additional details on our solution.

The consumer interacts with what we call a "widget", the UI that presents the list of retailers with the product in stock. This widget can be created by us on your behalf, matching the look and feel of your site. Or, you or your agency can keep control of that UI and embed our data service (which populates the correct list of retailers, stock status, etc. per product). In either case, we will help you through the process of getting up and running. In the widget, we can include as much or little data as you prefer to accompany the list of retailers, including stock status, price, or other applicable text. We will work with you to manage which retailers appear in the list, how they appear (based on stock status), and in which order they appear.

The data service that enables you to design your own widget, should you desire, also allows you to embed this service in other marketing campaigns. We have seen our customers use this in social media such as Pinterest or Twitter, email campaigns, Youtube videos, and display advertising.

In terms of where the consumer goes after interacting with the widget, different brands have different objectives. A basic implementation that makes sense for many product categories is to link the consumer to the specific corresponding product page on the retailer site where he/she can review the retail offer and then choose to add to cart. For some categories, it may make sense to add directly from the manufacturer's web page to a cart or shopping list on the retail site.
